I think the biggest take away from that night is that Don Bosco isn't quite the dominating force that they have been in the past. This version of the Don's doesn't seem to have a (Jake Hogan or Mason Svoboda) type athlete that can take over a game with their athletic prowess. They could still get it done but it will take a complete team effort that can't possibly be at the same level it has been in years past. Whether the 8-6 halftime score is a final or not, that doesn't change the fact that in years past, this years Midland team probably wouldn't have been within 30 points of DB at half. Thus, Midland is improved, which I have seen first hand this year and the mighty Don's have taken a few steps back. That doesn't change their ability to win games and go deep in the playoffs and possibly still beat HLV this season but the dominant fashion of the past 3 or 4 seasons is certainly not the same.
Time will tell, they have 2 games left against average or better opponents (HLV/Colo). How dominant they are against those 2 teams will give us a better idea of how good they are.
Midland on the other hand, plays against Central, Elkader this week. This is a test for them that will help decide the district 4 1st place team and also give us all a little comparison between Don Bosco, Elkader and Midland. If the Warriors come out and get up big on Midland, then the conversation between Central and Don Bosco can begin.
I think it is clear that the teams competing to get to the dome in NE Iowa are District 3-Janesville and NK but it will be tough for NK without Yezek to get too or past the quarterfinals depending on their matchup. In District 4 Elkader seems to be the only real contender for anything past the quarterfinals. In District 5 it will be HLV and Don Bosco. I think with proximity and the teams left when we get to the QFinals, it will be a rematch between HLV and Bosco and Janesville will play Elkader. Only way that doesn't happen is if Bosco or Janesville get pulled to the west similar to NF having to travel over to Bosco last year.
Gonna be fun to see who takes care of business and gets there.
