Just a couple of thoughts since week 3 is in the books and we’re approaching the last game of non-district play. There are three traditional football powers that come to mind that are off to 0-3 starts.
Union, La Porte City (2A)
BHRV (2A)
Pella Christian (1A)
Pella Christian has undoubtedly had an extremely tough non-district schedule and will have an opportunity to run the table in their district as it looks like it could come down to week 9 against I35, but don’t overlook Pleasantville.
BHRV has had a tough schedule too, with the likes of West Sioux, West Lyon, and Western Christian who are all in district 1.
Union might be a byproduct of a changing on the coaching staff. Seems like they might not quite have the athletes right now that they’re accustomed to.
Another thought is the start for some of these district groups after three games. For instance, in district 8, they’re five teams undefeated after three games: Van Meter, Panorama, ACGC, Mount Ayr, and Clarinda. Now, I fully expect Van Meter to dominate the district, but the other four teams will be battling for a playoff spot. The other district that obviously comes to mind and in my mind is the toughest and most talented is district 1: West Sioux, West Lyon, and Western Christian all enter week 4 at 3-0 and have played basically a round robin with BHRV, Sioux Center, and Central Lyon. Western scored a nice win over Bishop Heelan last night. I think West Sioux is the class of the district, but it’s possible that district 1 gets three teams in based on their scheduling. This provided that BHRV gets things rolling next week and into their district play to help out.
I will share my top 10 after next weeks games are complete and before district play begins.
Any thoughts after three weeks of competition?
