des moines register, not sure if this is their top rankings, or the coaches poll??

cedar rapids gassette, not sure if this is their top rankings, or the coaches poll??
If its the Gazzett they are all over the place, in class A they have East Buchanan #1 and they werent even ranked last week by the Gazzette. Didnt know their was a coaches poll? West Hancock and Grundy still the best two teams in class A hands down. Denver was ranked in 1A and beat a highly ranked Wapsie Valley team in A but this week neither team is ranked in either class and both should be. Thats just why rankings dont matter the cream of the crop will rise at the end of the season going into the post season.

I was thinking that the Gazzette and Iowa Preps basically worked together
The Gazette rankings are literally six guys in the newsroom who cover eastern Iowa taking a vote. They're fun to look at, I guess, but there's really not a lot behind them. This board could come up with a ranking that would have far more input from people who've actually seen teams play than the Gazette poll.

That said, here's the Gazette rankings after Week 1:

CLASS 5A
1. Ankeny
2. Southeast Polk
3. Pleasant Valley
4. Urbandale

Personally I think the Gazette poll tends to be more spot on then most of the other polls. The Register for example I think is just one maybe two guys making the rankings. And the AP and Radio Iowa have voters but I know the AP this week was only 6 voters themselves.
The Gazette probably has better high school coverage then any paper in the state.

Just for grins, here is the composite of the four different 5A polls listed above. Total points accumulated (from 10-1) and first place votes in parenthesis:

1 (Tie) Ankeny 38 (2)
1 (Tie) Southeast Polk 38 (2)
3 Pleasant Valley 31
4 WDM Valley 25
5 Dowling Catholic 22.5
6 Urbandale 22
7 Cedar Falls 17
8 CR Kennedy 14.5
9 Linn-Mar 6
10 Sioux City East 4
Others receiving votes: Dubuque Senior 2

I'd say this has more credibility than any of the others because there are more data points.

I wake up every Saturday morning looking forward to the NW Iowa Review. They do a really good job locally covering all the Northwest Iowa teams with write ups from most games. Idk maybe a dozen or so games a week. We are kind of on an island up here so just a different perspective.

Agreed! The NW Iowa Review has superb coverage of the NW corner. Keep an eye on 1-A Western Christian - they are very good.

I suspect from the weeks games, that due to 4 ranked teams losing,,,,there will quite a different 3a ranking in week 3....the ranked teams that bit the bullet are-

nevada.....West Marshall, State Center 35, Nevada 31
solon.....Mount Vernon 17, Solon 14
assumption....Wahlert, Dubuque 34, Assumption, Davenport 21
sargent bluff....Central Lyon 28, Sergeant Bluff-Luton 0

Anyone have any thoughts of which new teams will be in week 3-3a rankings
