Tonight it's Ballard vs. Clear Lake and Davenport Assumption vs. Clear Creek- Amana for the last two 3A state qualifiers. Post any scores and comments about these two games.

CCA 79
Assumption 66

I didn't see that one coming. 3 years in a row that assumption has gone down in the final. Great career for Peeters comes to an end. Not sure what assumption has coming back but would think they would take a step back after losing a player like that.

Three Wamac Conference teams in the final eight in Des Moines, and six Wamac teams made it to the substate finals (one was 2A). Pretty obvious that the Wamac and the Little Hawkeye (aslo had a 2A team make it) are the premier 3A conferences. Clear Creek-Amana taking Assumption down so convincingly is a little bit of a shock, but that's what the Wamac does.. Assumption played 4A finalist North Scott to the wire and beat 4A finalist Davenport North, so Assumption was good.. Dubuque Wahlert was in the 3A championship game three years in a row, but now has been taken out in the tourney three years in a row by a Wamac team! Part of the reason is the coaching. There are some incredibly good coaches in the Wamac and Little Hawkeye. The end of the Mt. Vernon and Wahlert district final game is an example. With Wahlert ahead by 1 with 1.6 seconds left, with the place in pandemonium, Coach Timm of Mt. Vernon calls a time out before his worst free throw shooter was at the line shooting a one and one. Almost assuredly he could make no more than one of two. He substituted in the strongest big kid in the school, a 6-5 lineman who can bench-press over 300 pounds, and the 6-8 shooter clanks the ball off the rim, the lineman grabs it and throws it back up and Mt. Vernon wins at the buzzer. An improvised set play called at the right moment in a brilliant move by Coach Ed Timm.

Ballard 65, Clear Lake 56.

I recall a lot of whining on this message board a couple years ago that it wasn't fair that Wahlert, Xavier and Assumption played in 4A leagues. They are just like all of the other schools...talent comes and talent goes. Its all cyclical.

We still need a multiplier:)
