Looking for some insight as I don't follow it close enough. In a Register about 2,000 yard rushers they talked about WB's outstanding back Luke Lenoch. Butch talked about their offense being cutting edge and staying ahead of trends and putting college aspects into the offense. Has WB changed up their offense that much?

to a degree, definitely. If Coach Jarod Tylee had his way, the team would be a 50/50 team. But you go with your strength.
Lenoch is definitely that.

Yes he is and they threw the ball well but I didn't think they had put in a ton of variety.

Are you referring to the scrimmage?
There is a fairly good reason the team/staff didn't show much. They were, after all, scrimmaging on a field 4 miles away from their week 1 opponent (Lisbon). No need to give a tractor to the farmer if you can plow the field yourself.

Lol, not talking about the scrimmage, think I saw a variety of 4 plays in the scrimmage that I went to. More along the lines of what they ran last year

Hello,

I live in Ohio but a huge chunk of my family lives in West Branch, so I've had many cousins go to WB High School and several of them played football for the Bears as most recently as 2009 or 2010. The last time I visited in '09 I saw them play @ Wilton and from what I remember West Branch ran the ball a ton. I know West Branch is a program with a very storied past and they have a very interesting home field. As a high school football fan in Ohio, I wanted to learn more about HS football in the mid-west and I thought no better way than to see first how the West Branch Bears are doing, so I ask: what offense do they run currently and how does that compare to what they're known for traditionally? Second, I'd like to know how Iowa does their HS playoffs. How many classifications are there, are they all-inclusive classifications or divided between public and private, how many teams in each classification across the state make playoffs (or what percentage of them across the state), how do teams make playoffs, and how many weeks are in the postseason?

I apologize in advance if this isn't necessarily the appropriate place to ask, but I am widely curious. I plan on visiting IA next fall and may want to catch the Bears in action, but I'd first want to know how you guys do it and get an idea of where West Branch stands in their region for 1A (and small school in general) and state at the 1A level.

Thank you in advance to anyone that does reply! I checked MaxPreps and it says West Branch is doing well so far.

To answer your playoff questions:
1. Five classes (4A, 3A, 2A, 1A & A) of 11 man plus the 8-man class
2. Currently 32 teams per class qualify.
3. 4A (big schools) has 46 teams. The rest of the classes have 56-60 teams.
4. Teams qualify strictly on district finish. Eight districts in each class, top four make the playoffs.
5. Playoffs squeeze five games in four weeks due to availability of the UNI-Dome. Next season, the playoff field shrinks back to 16 and the first three rounds will all be on Fridays to allow more rest between games.

Thanks! That's not too different from how OH does it, although point 5 certainly is interesting. Who hosts the playoff matches? Are they all played at the UNI-Dome?

First three rounds are at the home field of the higher seed. Semis & Finals all held in the UNI-Dome. The availability issue is the Friday/Saturday the following week is always the first round of the FCS playoffs and UNI blacks out that weekend to be able to host a game in the event they qualify.

The offense has evolved a ton. It was a wing-T to now more a spread.

They used to run a lot of waggles and roll outs to a lot of shotgun now too.
