Wayne and Twin Cedars played tonight, as Friday's game was postponed due to inclement weather. Wayne won the game, 86-60, and the combined score is the fifth most in state history. I wasn't at the game and haven't gotten confirmation on the final tally, but a couple people had Wayne's Clayton Kiefer tagged for 12 total touchdowns in the game, which would break the previous state record (for all classes) of 10, which was held by several players.

Obviously very little defense was being played, but 12 touchdowns is still ridiculous.

Quikstats shows that Clayton Kiefer had 10 rushing touchdowns and one kick return touchdown while Carson Kiefer had a receiving touchdown. Ridge Downard had a touchdown reception as well. Kiefer finished with 32 carries and 300 yards on the ground. Wow.

Holy cow now defense. Almost reminds you of the Bosco vs Murray semi-final game a few years ago that went into OT. 11 TD's is pretty incredible though no matter how they are achieved. And as impressive it is, it will totally over shadow that 8 TD and 450+ yard passing game by Otis Roby from Twin Cedars. Was anyone at the game last night that could shed some light about what happened? Was it just a great game plan by both teams offenses or was it just poor defenses being exploited?

I wasn't there, but I figured going in that Twin Cedars probably wouldn't be physical enough to stop Kiefer. Wayne's pass defense has been really shaky all year, plus they were missing their best defensive back to an injury. Sounded pretty much like just a perfect matchup of strengths vs. weaknesses for both teams. I was told most of the touchdowns were total breakaways where Kiefer/Twin Cedars receivers had no defenders even close to them.

Also, turns out that Kiefer broke the national 8-man record for touchdowns in a game. Something like 8 players shared the record, including three former Iowa preps.

Congrats Mr. Kiefer! A very fun player to watch!
I'm still holding out hope that Wayne and HLV will get matched up at some point in the playoffs. It's within the 125-mile radius, so it's at least possible, and I definitely liked the direction that series was taking over the last couple seasons (especially after last year's close games).

Is Quik Stats correct that Clayton Keifer is 5'7" and 155 pounds? Dude must be unreal fast....?

Crazy stats from this game the other night. That had to be one heck of a game to see.

He's definitely only 5'7", but he might be 160. Don't let that size fool you, though. He can definitely break tackles. I'd say he's the toughest kid I've ever known, but both of his older brothers were exactly the same way. His brother Colton, who graduated two years ago, was begging the coaches to put him back into the game when Wayne was down to just 12 guys on the last night of their last season of 11-man. His hand was broken. And the oldest brother, Christian, was my quarterback. Our offensive line was awful, and that kid just took a beating on every play, but he always got up and came back ready to go another round.

All that said, he's definitely very fast, too. Here's a highlight reel from his sophomore year; he's a little faster and stronger now than he was then, but it still gives you an idea of what it's like to watch him play.

Thanks for the info tm33... I am glad to see Wayne having some success in football, and other sports as well.
