Does anyone know if West Waterloo has ever started out 7-0 in the last 60 years before this year? I know the MVC was way tougher than the district they now play in, but this is a historic start for the WW program.

They are playing great, good for them. What's truly amazing to me (assuming no other upsets in the district) is that if they beat CR Washington in week 9, CR Wash won't be making the playoffs. Didn't see that coming after non-district play considering possibly 3 of the teams that Wash beat in non district play will make the playoffs.

That is crazy. I guarantee that all of the east side schools are hoping that Waterloo West beats Wash. I don't think anyone (in the east) wants to see Wash on their playoff brackets.

I don't think there are too many teams in the playoffs this year that you would want to see in your bracket, I mean if Wat West beats Washington I sure wouldn't want to see West in my bracket

1984 team was 11-0 before losing to Sioux City East in the state championship game.

Except that Wash is battle tested. Their schedule has been brutal, and they had one loss. Waterloo West has a lot to prove, they've beat one quality team this year.

The other crazy thing to consider is that if Wash beats Waterloo West by enough points to hold the tiebreaker, WW could be 8-1 and not going to the playoffs.

It's possible for Cedar Falls, Waterloo West and Wash to all tie for the district lead at 6-1. CF has beaten Wash, which would have beaten West, who beat CF, which means you have to use the points tiebreaker. In any event, if it finishes like that, somebody with only one district loss won't be playing on October 28. Right now WW has a 13.00 point differential, with Wash at 9.33 and CF at 4.33. CF plays Jefferson and Waterloo East, so they're going to pad that number. Wash plays East this week, so they'll pad their number as well, with West playing Mason City. If everybody maxes out with 17 points this week, and CF does it again against East, that means a 10-point win by Wash over West keeps the Wahawks out of the playoffs. Crazy!!!

First we had too many playoff teams, now we don't have enough.

This is why awarding playoff bids by district finish are stupid. I have always been against this. Give the champion a bid, but what the hell is wrong with using that old point system to determine the wild card/at-large pool? The second place team in District 6 will not be as good as the third place team in District 5. After 30-40 years, the state still screws this up.

Yeah, it's unfortunate that an 8-1 team wont be making the field. why cant they just select the top 8 teams from each side of the state....?

Pretty sure with CF only winning by 4 West is going to beat them in points no matter what

Yep, that four-point margin between Jeff and Cedar Falls means the Tigers cannot get in with the points tiebreaker. The best they could manage would be 6.80 if they beat Waterloo East by 17 points; should CR Wash beat Waterloo West by 17, the Wahawks differential would still be 7.40, while Wash's would have to be at least 8.30 with any kind of win.

Waterloo West is in the playoffs, thanks to Jefferson. Washington is basically facing a play-in game against the Wahawks; win and they're in, lose and they almost certainly drop to third behind Cedar Falls. The Tigers' fate is pretty much out of their hands now.

Boy, I can be kind of an idiot sometimes. Thanks, everyone, for not pointing that out. o_O

By "almost certainly" dropping behind Cedar Falls with a loss, I mean CR Washington would indeed be out of the playoffs with a loss to Waterloo West. Even if CF loses to Waterloo East on Thursday (and wouldn't that be an omen of the apocalypse?), if Wash loses to fall into a tie with the Tigers, CF has the head-to-head tiebreaker.

So, West is in, win or lose. Wash is in with a win over West and wins the district if CF loses or with a win by 6 points or more if CF wins (CF would be eliminated in a three-way tie). CF is in if Wash loses to West, regardless of the outcome of CF-East on Thursday.

Waterloo West has put together a dream like season so far! They were preseason ranked in the BC Moore rankings at 25th, but have shocked a lot of people, including myself, and clinched a spot in the playoffs. They didn't have the toughest non district schedule (Most significant win was a 38-14 victory over a tough and scrappy Western Dubuque team) but they have really performed well in district play. I never would have predicted them to beat Cedar Falls but they did it and look to be a team to watch out for in the playoffs. Devon Moore has put up some very impressive stats this year also and I'm hoping to see him succeed at ISU (Go Hawks!) I can't give Devon all the credit though, they have two of the best ball hawk wide receivers I've seen this year in Carlton Todd and Tayshaun Cooper and also own a very steady and dependable Oline and Dline. I'm very excited to see West's game against Wash this week and look forward on seeing how they perform in the playoffs
