One more score I saw from the MAC:

Iowa City High 57, North Scott 63.
Don’t have any details but this score is interesting to say the least. North Scott returns a ton and City struggled to win something like 5 games last season.

Some more interesting Tuesday night scores:

Central DeWitt 75, Clear Creek- Amana 70
Gilbert 63, Boone 51
Gladbrook-Reinbeck 61, Grundy Center 59 in O.T.
Lake Mills 67, West Hancock 33
Monticello 71, Bellevue 53
Newell-Fonda 56, Western Christian, Hull 52. A little surprising?
CR Prairie 72, Davenport North 54. I think the MVC is tougher than people think.
Rock Valley 69, Sheldon 61
Storm Lake 82, SC North 78
WDM Valley 65, DM Roosevelt 46
Waukee 70, Des Moines East 28
West Delaware 64, Independence 47
West Sioux 55, South O'Brien 54 in a thriller.
Ballard vs. Norwalk score?

Osage score really impressive. Newman lost a lot, but they always have solid athletes in there program and beating by that much is crazy. Possible team to watch out for in 2A?...

West Sioux score surprises me a bit. While I know south O’Brien is a very good team, I thought West Sioux was just that much better being a class size bigger and brining in coppock. Don’t know if this game is an indictment on West Sioux or Shows how good South O’Brien is this year

West Fork gets the crazy victory over Clear Lake. Clear lake finished 4th last year in 3A and did return there starting point guard who is supposedly one of the best in his class around the state. Don’t know if they returned much after that though.

Lake Mills score is very surprising. They were preseason #1 and only beat a BAD west Hancock team by 14. They just came off a football state title run. We’ll see if they are number 1 when they play us this coming Tuesday

Ballard vs. Norwalk score?
That same Prairie team was beat by 20 plus points by Marion in a Pride Scrimmage. The MAC is historically top heavy and then not that great beyond that. Sounds like Wahlert and Assumption were two of the more impressive 3A teams on the first night of action. Schock and Schmitt lit it up against Decorah and a healthy Sean Peters for Assumption this year will make them a tough out come post season...heard he had 3 dunks against Alleman.

Now don't hate on the Wamac-Marion and West Delaware have been tough lately and I recall either Benton or South Tama giving Xavier a run for their money a few seasons ago. It seems people always dig on the Wamac and think the privates on this side of the state, Xavier, Wahlert and Assumption are better just because they play in a bigger conference and probably recruit. I would take Marion over any of those three. We shall see who is left standing in March.

Gehlen loses to HMS (quite surprising) on Tuesday night. Gehlen with 2 ineligible for conduct reasons and another starter injured early in the HMS game and out for the year requiring shoulder surgery.

Not hating on the WaMac. Just pointing out that Prairie was beat by 20 points by Marion this year. The WaMac is one of the best 3A leagues in the state. I just think the MVC is down this year compared to the CIML. Assumption has lost to Marion and West Delaware the last two years in sub state final games...they know better than anyone that the top WaMac teams are always very solid. Sam Tarly...who do you think has the best team of the 3A parochial schools on the eastern side of the state? I know that Wahlert has recruited in the past, did they bring anyone in this year?:)

I am going to say Wahlert, a team with great guard play can go far in the tourney and Wahlert has that. Assumption has the Peters kid and Xavier has the Moses kid but I think their back courts are not nearly as talented as Wahlert. Plus English is a great coach. Fitz at Assumption is decent and I have already stated my thoughts on the Xavier hire-from what I heard it was a shady deal, he might work out but on paper it looked like a weak hire. Obviously, the people at Xavier thought otherwise. Who do you like Cheese?

I see all three as being pretty even. Peters at Assumption is the best overall player on any of the 3 teams...kid is a stud. Wahlert has the best backcourt and Xavier could have the most quality depth on its roster of the 3.

I think the Wamac is a very strong league, with Marion probably being the top team this year. Wahlert's been knocked out of the tourney the last two years by a Wamac team. And, no, there are no new players or transfers. Same kids since middle school, although Michael Duax and Max Link transfered to Hempstead and Senior in 9th grade (which is what their families always do, and that's fine), and In fact, the Eagles are down a returning starter who is ill and may not play until after the holidays. Last year another Wahlert starter missed the whole season because of illness. Anyway, I'd rank Xavier the top of the eastern private schools this year, with Assumption second and Wahlert third, but we'll see. I don't see any of them coming close to Norwalk, but who knows?

Too many questions with Xavier, Wahlert has the coaching and backcourt players to have a great season

I gotta agree with Rodney's kid brother, Cheeeese. Xavier is pretty deep with some tough guards, they are going to be the team to beat on this side of the state.

Problem is, the schools you are talking about will have a bunch of losses which really hurts at tourney time when you have to play on the other team's court because your record is so-so. And Wahlert won't be at full strength for quite a while. Besides, they may be the shortest team in the state.

Newell-Fonda 56, Western Christian, Hull 52.
I know their try-hard girls program beat Western, but is that really the boys score?

Are the WC boys really that down that NF beat them even without Coppick?

Or have the NF boys been training with their girls teams over the summer?
