From Monday night

GLADBROOK-REINBECK 67, JANESVILLE 36: Top-ranked Gladbrook-Reinbeck overpowered Janesville and remained undefeated Monday, 67-36.

The Rebels used a 26-point first quarter to gain the upper hand and held the visitors scoreless in the second period.

Joe Smoldt poured in 25 points, Caden Kickbush 16 and Thomas Mussig 10 for G-R, while Cody Hicks’ 10 points topped the Wildcats.

I bet Janesville wishes they still had the senior class from last year in all sports.

In Little Hawkeye Conference action, Pella Christian maintained a lead throughout against a pesky Indianola squad and won 57-44 at home. PC was led by Jungling (13), Veenstra (13), and Kacmarynski (10). PC looked like they hadn't played in awhile. Their only game last week was postponed due to weather, so it had been an 11-day lay-off. That said, Indianola has some young talent.

Pella used a late-game run to knock off Norwalk. After trailing by double digits in the first half and being behind pretty much the entire game, it was Nick Finney that hit a lay-up on an inbounds pass to give them the lead and win with 10 seconds to play.

The surprise of the conference so far is Dallas Center-Grimes, who beat Grinnell handily last night to maintain a perfect record and a one-game lead (in the loss column) in the conference.

I watched New London / Danville last night and NL is very talented. Excellent athleticism and good ball handlers. Rebound very well as a team and aggressive trapping full court D applied intermittently. NL was in control of this game the entire way. I believe Danville will improve once Wilcox is eligible. Tremendous post work by Haeffner and Rump, but Haeffner tries to do to much from the outside and needs to be under the basket. Perkins was not existent on this night in spite of having numerous open looks. Will be a better game likely at Danville.
