I think the end for high school sports, particularly for the smaller schools, will be here before you know it. More kids are participating in club sports with the parents paying big money. High school athletics have lost their appeal. There is no hometown loyality to the local high school when a kid has already won three fictious state championships. Youth sports have become a big time source of revenue for many sports camps and clubs as parents get sucked in to thinking that Johnny or Suzie are going to be the next LeBron.

I do remember a school administrator telling me about 10 years ago that high school sports would one day be out of the school control and that they would all be through clubs. Those who are not good enough to play will have to look for intramural programs to participate in
