This week's recruiting updates: Ryan Hawkins, Garrett Nichols, Baylee Steele,
Regen Siems, Addison Ross, Kyle Wagner, Tyler Borchers, Tucker Spears, Nick
McLellan, Parker Eller, and Jovonte Squiers.

Carroll athlete Addison Ross

Recruiting
“It has been a frenzy lately. I had a couple of coaches go to
basketball games like Briar Cliff and Douma at Central. I’ve been talking to
multiple schools for football about visiting in January.”

Basketball

“It has been a lot lately from Division III schools like Central, Briar Cliff,
and Midlands in Nebraska.”

Football talk
“I have talked to the coaches
from Southwest Minnesota State and I might take a visit there. I’m sure I’ll be
visiting Sioux Falls. Morningside wants me to visit and that is all right now.”

A college sport
“Right now I am staying 50/50.”

The deciding
factor
“I want to see how well basketball is going. I had a great time in
football and we were playing really well.”

Ankeny Centennial athlete Garrett Nichols

Recruiting mail
“I have not had any.”

A favorite college growing up

“My grandpa and dad have had me growing up being a Hawkeye fan. I’ve been
watching them. I like the Hawkeyes.”

Norwalk center Baylee Steele

Recruiting
“I have scholarships from Briar Cliff, DMACC, Southwestern, and
Iowa Central. I’ve also been talking to Wayne State, the University of Sioux
Falls, and Kirkwood for right now.”

The junior college route
“I want
to go Division I and that is my main goal. I know I probably have to go Junior
College first and then might be able to pick up a better option down the road.”

A favorite
“Not really. I like all of them. I went on a visit at Briar
Cliff and liked it a lot. I like the team, the coaches, and everything about
it.”

Upcoming visits
“I really haven't had much time with basketball
but I am trying to figure out how to get on visits to DMACC, Iowa Central, and
Southwestern.”

Lone Tree guard Jovonte Squiers

Recruiting
“It is really about the same people.”

Schools
“I’ve
had two schools in Illinois.”

IKM-Manning guard Kyle Wagner

Recruiting
“There has been a lot from Briar Cliff and Morningside. I just
went to the Briar Cliff-Morningside game. I am also getting stuff from Central
in Pella and UNO will send me something every once in a while.”

A
favorite
“I’m pretty neutral and am weighing my options. I am not even close
to a decision. I am just enjoying the game.”

Recruiting the hardest

“I’d say probably Briar Cliff and Morningside.”

Dowling Catholic kicker Nick McLellan

Recruiting
“Kansas State would be my #1 right now. Then there are a couple
of others like Grandview and Iowa to walk-on.”

The situation at Kansas
State
“They are showing me a lot of interest. They don’t have a scholarship
but said I could eventually earn one or get one next year.”

Iowa/Grandview situations
“Grandview will have a scholarship. Iowa has not
been showing a lot of interest but I feel I could walk on there and have a
chance of getting one.”

Recruiting the hardest
“Grandview.”

Calls
“I’ve had a couple from schools in Minnesota like St. Thomas. There is
one in Wisconsin I believe, the Pioneers. Grandview has called twice.”

Walking on
“I would take a walk-on role if I had a decide chance to get an
offer in the future. I still have open eyes for schools like Grandview and other
ones for sure.”

Official visit talk
“No, not yet. I’m supposed to talk
to (Bill) Snyder at Kansas State to see what they have. They are supposed to
call this week.”

Why Kansas State is the favorite
“Because I went to
their camps over the summer and really liked their coaching staff. They have a
great staff and I love what they have to offer.”

Denison guard Parker Eller

Recruiting
“I don’t plan on playing basketball in college. I thought about
playing the last couple of years but I think I’ll just go to Iowa and focus on
Iowa.”

Why he decided to give up basketball
“I want to be a doctor
someday and I figure it’d be beneficial for me to go to Iowa and get a good
education. I think going to Iowa will help me get into med school at Iowa.”

Johnston tight end Regen Siems

Recruiting
“I’d say it is Augustana, Iowa State, UNI, and Grandview. Those
are probably the top ones so far.”

Official visits
“I have an official
visit scheduled for Augustana on the 18th of January.”

Official visit
talk
“I have talked about official visits with all of the other schools.”

Scholarship talk
“I’ve got some money from Grandview. They offered me
some money. Some money will come from Augustana but I am not sure how much yet.”

Iowa State
“I think if I were to go to Iowa State I’d be a preferred
walk-on.”

UNI
“I am not entirely sure.”

A favorite
“Right
now I’d say Augustana is the top one. I love their coaches. They made an in-home
visit and I really enjoyed it.”

A final decision
“By the end of the
basketball season.”

Officials he wants to make
“I’d say three or four
if not five.”

Atlantic forward Ryan Hawkins

Recruiting
“I get quite a few letters a week from a lot of NAIA schools.”

Schools
“Briar Cliff sends me a lot. I’ve talked to the Northwestern
coaches in Orange City. One of my AAU coaches this summer was an assistant at
Midland in Fremont, Nebraska.”

Visits
“I have not done anything like
that at this point.”

Schools to visit
“Northwestern is one because one
of our assistant coaches went there and really liked it. It is close to home.”

Bishop Heelan tight end Tucker Spears

Recruiting
“I have offers right now from Eastern Michigan, Bucknell, and
one from Upper Iowa. I am also looking at USD, UNI, and some of the local
schools here.”

Officials
“There are no officials as of right now. I
think we are setting one up with USD but we haven't set a final date.”

Other officials
“I know Eastern Michigan is still in the mix. I believe
Bucknell just got a commit. I had an official visit with them setup but they
canceled it. I am still looking at them and it depends on how things go on their
end.”

A favorite
“As of right now, I’d say my #1 is Bucknell. Another
one locally is USD. They are pretty big time too. We’ll see how everything plays
out.”

Others
“I know Iowa Western is an option. USD has come to the
school and so has UNI and Upper Iowa. They are showing a lot of interest. I’ll
still take my time and figure out my decision for next year.”

LeMars forward Tyler Borchers

Recruiting
“I committed to Morningside (for basketball) before Christmas.
I haven't thought about it much since.”

Why he picked Morningside
“I
just thought it was a good fit. I liked the guys there and the coaches as well.”

Considering football
“Not really. It just wasn’t the same to me as
playing basketball.”

Having recruiting over
“It has been nice getting
it out of the way. I can just worry about playing and that is really nice.”
