Norwalk defensive end Sonny Onken

Recruiting

from Iowa and Iowa State.”

College visits
“I went to Iowa State for a
game day visits one or two times. Other than that, I haven't done any visits.”

Upcoming trips
“I don’t think I’ll be doing any trips until this summer.”

Junior day visits
“No I haven't had any of those visits.”

Recruiting the hardest
“I would say Iowa State or Missouri. I’ve gotten the
most stuff from them.”

North Scott athlete Colin Kreiter

Have you made a college decision?
“I verbally committed to Kirkwood
Community College for baseball.”

Why did you pick Kirkwood?
“It was
just the relationships I have with the coaches. I like their campus and the
academics there. They can really get me to the next level and where I want to
be.”

What others were being considered?
“I was also considering Iowa
Western and NIACC.”

Was it tough giving up football?
“It was and I
always had it in the back of my head if I should play. It came down to which
sport I loved more and I picked baseball.”

How much did the Kirkwood
coaches help?
“It was big. I got along with them really well. They can really
help me get where I want to be.”

West Delaware running back Coy Roussell

Recruiting
“There has just been letters and junk mail It has been from
Iowa State, Iowa, UNI, and then a couple of smaller schools.”

Visits

“I went to Iowa State for a visit during the season for a football game.”

Upcoming visits
“Nope.”

West Des Moines Valley athlete Keller Prien

College
“I am just going to go to Iowa State and not play.”

Why he
decided to not play
“I guess I don’t want to try and rebuild what I had at
Valley. I am satisfied leaving with the guys and friends that I had played with
forever.”

Schools that had been recruiting
“It was all of the smaller
Division III schools had talked to me. I talked to Northeast University in
Minnesota, Augustana, Iowa Western, and Knox.”

Giving up football
“It
was really hard. It was sad but at the same time it was going to be way harder
to go to a school and meet people I don’t know and beat the relationships I had
with all of the guys.”

Lenox bigman Spencer Brown

A college sport
“I haven't really decided on anything yet. It depends on
how the football and basketball seasons go. I love them both equally kind of.”

Basketball recruiting
“William Penn has sent me a letter and Luther has
sent me some emails.”

Football recruiting
“I reached out to Iowa and
they send me stuff back. I plan on going to a camp there. Iowa Central came to
our school and talked to me.”

The determining factor in college

“Playing time I guess, if I like the campus, and if the classes aren’t
abnormally big.”

Storm Lake point guard Parker Lange

Recruiting
“I have gotten some letters from Morningside and SDSU I think.”

Visits
“No, it has just been letters right now. I haven't really had any
visits.”

A favorite growing up
“It was probably the Iowa Hawkeyes. I
have always wanted to play for them.”

Cedar Falls guard TreyShawn Labeaux

Recruiting
“I got a letter from Virginia. That has been the only one so
far.”

Visits
“No, I was looking forward to doing it this summer.”

A favorite college
“Kentucky.”

Harlan guard Kyle Juhl

A favorite sport
“Basketball would be my favorite sport.”

Recruiting
“I’ve gotten some letters from Central College in Pella and Briar
Cliff. That has really been the only recent ones.”

College visits
“I
got invited to a Wayne Sate basketball camp that I went to in early August. They
have also shown a little interest.”

A favorite college growing up

“Not really but both of my brothers play at Buena Vista. That is where I go and
watch.

Buena Vista interest
“A little bit but they can’t really talk
to me yet.”

Osage guard Collin Havel

Recruiting
“I got a Division III letters from Luther. That has been it.”

A favorite college growing up
“UNI.”

Bishop Heelan forward Elijah Hazekamp

Recruiting
“I visited Nebraska and I have gotten some letters from
Virginia, UNI, Drake, and Augustana.”

The Nebraska trip
“The coaches
were really nice. It is a great place and they have a brand new facility. I
liked it.”

Upcoming trips
“No, I don’t have any.”

A favorite
college growing up
“I’ve always liked Iowa. I kind of like UNI too.”

Clear Creek-Amana lineman Drew Wagner

UNI visit
“It was pretty good. Being able to see the Dome and everything
around it was pretty cool. It was a really fun trip.”

Did you commit?

“No, I didn’t. I’m not eligible yet so I got to do some work on my end to get
eligible and see what happens.”

Did they offer a scholarship?
“Yes
they did but I just got to work on getting eligible.”

When will you know
if you are eligible?
“I don’t know when. We’ll see this next semester and how
it fits with the sliding scale on ACT and stuff. I didn’t know I was
ineligible.”

When did you find out?
“I think it was last week.”

Where do you stand with the UNI offer and being eligible?
“He said
signing day is coming up and I sent him my grades from last semester. He is
going to see if it is realistic about me becoming eligible. If it is, I have to
commit to a plan to become eligible and he’ll go from there. It is a big risk on
his end so we’ll see what he does.”

What other schools are recruiting
you?
“I have Western Illinois next weekend and they are pretty high up there.
I have Winona State the following week and then the Monday after I am going to
Iowa Western to see what a junior college would be like.”

Do you have a
favorite?
“If I become eligible, UNI would be my favorite.”
