Please remember and abide by the rules of
The End Zone. The End Zone is for Iowa prep fans only. Whatever is said in The
End Zone, must stay in The End Zone.

For those of you who are not familiar with The End Zone, this information is
only available to IowaPreps.com premium subscribers and mainly focuses on
recruiting in both football and basketball. It may seem like a ways off
but Signing Day for the Class of 2008 is now less than two months away.
Find out which players have set up official visits, added scholarship offers,
and are hosting college coaches on in home visits! There are a number of
basketball recruiting tidbits and an update on the top football player in 2009 stocked throughout this End Zone!

As
mentioned in the article today, Maquoketa Valley lineman Jon Orr is
narrowing down on a college decision. The option it appears that he favors
is walking on at Iowa. But the Hawkeyes must extend him a preferred walk
on spot first. Other schools that are actively trying to land this two
time All State senior include Wartburg, Central, Upper Iowa, and UNI. Each
school stands a chance but Upper Iowa may end up having an advantage because
they can extend an athlete a scholarship. Time will tell if he takes it
but he has some nice options at this point.

Mason
City Newman athlete Adam Buffington is looking at similar options as
well. While Iowa is not in the picture, this standout has Central,
Morningside, Wartburg, Drake, Loras, and Coe all recruiting him. Although
Buffington has yet to make any visits at this point, he mentioned that he hopes
to take trips to Central, Morningside, Loras, and potentially others as well.
He does not have a favorite and the level of play will not factor into his final
decision.

Washington
athlete Alex Klopfenstein showcased his skills at a number of positions
for the Demons over the last three years and that versatility is something
college coaches are looking for. This senior had Northern Iowa stop by the
school and hopes the Panthers will show him more interest. Outside of UNI,
Klopfenstein has Truman State, Central, and other Iowa Conference schools
recruiting him hard. He mentioned that he would prefer to play college
football at the highest level possible so this recruiting will be interesting to
watch over the next month.

One
prospect who may be the toughest out of any in the Class of 2008 to get a hold
of is James Hurt of Keokuk. This exceptional athlete recently added
his first scholarship offers and they were from Truman State and Missouri Rolla.
Both are full rides that will pay for the majority of his college education.
But this senior has also setup official visits to Northern Iowa, Iowa, Truman
State, and Northwest Missouri State. Other schools recruiting this All
Stater include South Dakota State, Missouri Western State, and others but the
big factor will be if Iowa or Northern Iowa extends this talented senior an
offer. Will they step up?

MATTODONNELL07N10100.JPG
Tipton
linebacker Matt O'Donnell has the honor of being named All State in each
of the last three years and that has really helped him during the recruiting
process. This senior has three official visits setup to Brown, Truman
State, and Holy Cross. By looking at those visits, it is pretty obvious
that O'Donnell has done a lot of good work in the classroom. He has also
been hearing from Northern Iowa, Penn, and St. Cloud State. After these
visits, O'Donnell plans to evaluate the schools that he saw and then consider
setting up other trips.

544074.jpg
Bettendorf
lineman Matt Potter continues to have a number of schools recruiting him
but has yet to setup any visits. He has UNI and UNO at the top of his list
but he is also hearing from Iowa, Iowa State, and Kansas. Both UNI and UNO
have talked to Potter about official visits but none have been completely setup.
He is looking hard at making it out to Omaha over the weekend of the 18th in
January. Time will tell if he makes that but this lineman is definitely a
sought after prospect.

Darian
Patterson
of Mid-Prairie was named All State on the football field as a
junior but saw his season end after week four because of a knee injury. He
has bounced back this winter on the basketball court and that injury may push
him even harder towards playing hoops at the next level. Schools after
Patterson on the hard wood include Metro State, Wartburg, Central College, and
other smaller in-state schools. He has visited Waverly and mentioned he
plans to take an over night visit there in the future. Unless other
schools come into the picture, look for Patterson to be playing college
basketball with the Knights.

Speaking
of seniors looking at their basketball options, Algona Garrigan forward A.J.
Doughan
is focusing on hoops at the college level. Despite being an
All State tight end, he is looking more at playing small college basketball.
The two schools that are showing this talented senior the most attention are
Buena Vista and Briar Cliff. Both teams have fought for prospects over the
last few years and that will continue once again this time around.

526497.jpg
Jordan
Harrelson
is another prospect who may end up playing college basketball in
the Iowa Conference. This Cedar Rapids Xavier prep has been hearing from
Coe, Loras, as well as Wayne State. If the Wildcats do not extend an
offer, either IIAC school would love to land him in their 2008 recruiting class.
Harrelson has been having an excellent senior year to date for the Saints and
will be hoping that it continues during the second half of the year after the
holiday break.

492117.jpg
I
may not talk much about golf but one athlete I have been following who may be
taking that route in college is Kirby Pettitt of Carroll. This two
time All Stater on the basketball court may end up following his brothers'
footsteps in golf. Pettitt has interest from Iowa State, Colorado State,
Indian Hills, and Iowa Central. An option that this senior may end up
looking into is playing both basketball and golf at the junior college level.
That will allow him to improve in both sports and eventually see what sport
gives him the best chance to play at a high level in college.

KEENANDAVIS8_21100.JPG
While
Signing Day 2008 is not here yet, the top Iowan in the Class of 2009 is really
starting to see things heat up. Cedar Rapids Washington wide receiver
Keenan Davis still holds offers from Iowa and Nebraska but has seen his interest
from other schools really pick up. Programs that are mailing him include
USC, LSU, Clemson, Georgia, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Michigan, West Virginia,
Connecticut, North Carolina, and Alabama. While this mail doesn't mean a
whole lot, few Iowans have received this type of interest at any time during the
recruiting process. If the junior tape of Davis is enough to sway some of
these schools to extend an offer, look for his total to grow in big numbers over
the next few months.

I hope you enjoyed this latest installment of The
