State Championship game thread

VM just looks a little faster than Regina. I think though if Regina can clean up some a few things this is gonna be a great 2nd half.

Not able to watch live, but it seems statistically pretty even despite the 14-0 score. I see the other Regina QB has 2 picks, including 1 to end the half. Cook seems to be more efficient. Could be a permanent adjustment in 2nd half?

My original 7-10 point VM win projection was based on VM's big play capability they showed in the Semis. Looks like the big plays are back so far.

Cook was definitely the more accurate QB, also doesn't appear the game is too big for the freshman. I think Regina needs to start the 2nd half with their starting QB, but if they get nothing from him in their first drive move back to Cook for the remainder of the game.

Although that last TD was a big play, it was also a very fluky play that just doesn't normally. Take that play out this very well could be a 7 point game. I look for Regina to clean up some things and to be a very tight game.

By the way, the only reason I am here (usually on the Class A forum due to the Fearsome Eagle Beasts of Britt/Kanawha) is that I know one of the VM players' folks from way back.

Yeah I think Regina needs to get more guys out for track. Their skill players just look slow compared to VM

Impressed with VM. Delivering the hits.

Need to edit this a bit, impressed with their football skills. The rest leaves a little to be desired.

VM playing a decent game, but I think Regina is playing exceptionally bad. Drops, missed tackles, etc.

Also Cook should have been in at QB from about the 3rd or 4th possession on. Conlon just wasn't getting it done and Cook is a much better QB from what I've seen. This game could/should be a lot closer.

Van Meter is a very talented team. Coached very well and they bring it.

No no no I was told on this board 3 years ago it's not about talent it's coaching and your S and C program. Kids that work harder than everybody else wins championships.

6 out 8, how does that stack up for you? My guess is it is pretty well.

Congrats to Van Meter. Very solid team. Well deserved.

Regina had a great season. I actually think they over-achieved the expectations of many. They were counted out after their first two losses and spent most of the season anywhere from 4-8 in almost all of the rankings.
The coaches did a great job this season getting the most they could out of the team.

They escaped what seemed to be certain losses against South Winn and Pella Christian and reached the Championship game for the 8th consecutive season. A very impressive accomplishment.

Regina will lose some key players, and next year may be a challenge, but I'm excited about the potential of Ashton Cook at QB for the next 3 seasons

I am late to the board. Just got home. Congrats to VM. They continued to make big plays just as the semis. I am assuming all year. VM had more playmakers. #27 made big plays again especially. QB scrambled for some big plays, maybe not yardage wise, but still big plays. VM made plays when they had the chance. Regina did not. The bobbled pick for a TD was a back breaker that really swung momentum toward VM. Regina moved the ball fairly effectively in the first half between the 30's but couldn't get a score. Regina looked a bit tired at the end and had a lot of two-way starters that seemed to take a toll physically. A great season for VM and well-deserved championship!

Not sure why the "pile on" here. Regina has take the best teams shot every year for the past 8. Short the last two to two quality teams. I think it's fair to give credit it's due. Van Meter was the better team today and was a quality team. Let's not take anything away from them and Western Christian last year. I think Regina's run has been something that has never been accomplished. We will see if it will "last" next year. Regina once again was a talented team, just not the best. Kudoz to VM for the championship. Kudoz to Regina for the finals 8 years and running. Many counted them out this year as road kill early on and few (actually no one but me) on this board picked them to win.

Hey janklow did U watch the game live in the dome? If u had u would understand why Vm had a personal foul and an unsportsmanlike. It wasn't a one sided affair for sure. Let's just say Regina didn't like the beat down they were getting and VM appeared to be soaking it up. Unsprortsmanlike call was taunting by VM but the other one should have been called way earlier on Regina but called on VM, second guy thing. Last personal foul was ugly ugly classless football by a Regina lineman. Never seen anything like it, he should have been ejected.

I won't disagree with the last comment. The last personal foul should have been an ejection, it doesn't represent the way the game should be played. Watching the game from the beginning the woofing and chippiness was pretty one sided early and that team continued that pattern pretty consistently during the game. There is something to be said about how to win the right way. Did Regina have some moments as well in the game? Yes.

Agreed. In my opinion, at the least, the coaches should have taken him out of the game. The game was over at that point anyway. Should have been pulled to "educate" him a well as allow him to cool off. Didn't like to see it.
