#1 Thomas Even and #3 Owen Mangrich the quick DT's. #1 will also play RB next year. #3 I think will be a TE as well as DT/DE. #58 Pittman is back. He will play offense all the time and DT.
#15 Svoboda, the most important guy. He will be the featured guy next year.
#4 Sawvel will be the #2 guy next year. I assume he plays QB when they want to throw the ball.
#7 Tenold will be back at TE and LB/CB.
#18 Hellman will be used as their speed/outside guy in their Bunch set as well as rotate at QB (Glorified Wildcat/direct Snap RB)
#44Carpenter-Provides depth at TE and DE
#51 Even-Returning starting Center
#78 Weber-Could be a guy that steps in at G next year
In the past, in the post-AH era. (After Hogan) they have rotated runners at that position and used the same guy to throw when they wanted to all the time. Predictable yes, but it hasn't really mattered much in the past, they have done what they wanted to do.
So 8 kids that either started or played a lot. Depth was once again on their side in 2016. Next year, I think the starters are better overall than this years team but the depth def takes a hit IMO. 38 kids out this year. 11 Seniors graduate.
The guys I don't think they can fully replace at the same level of size, strength, talent, experience, etc are:
#35 Even-Tough blocker on offense and even better on defense (pun intended).
#5 Bagby-For his throwing ability, don't know if they have that guy on the current roster. They run those delayed drag routes and screens predominantly and without a Wide Receiver type threat the vertical pass game won't be as good as it has been so a better runner/less accurate passer might not hurt them with what they will be next year anyway.
#39 Schmitz-They kept him clean on defense so he made a lot of tackles.
#2 Rigdon-Their sole vertical threat from '16 is gone. Don't know if they have that guy if Sawvel is playing QB/RB and Svoboda is in the backfield. If Svoboda is split out, makes for a very tough matchup but he is also not in the backfield either and they are less dominant in the run game.
So, that is the best I can give you from what I know. Will be interesting to see what Yoder cooks up for next year. They have done a lot of the same things with a plug and play mentality with the new talented group they have each year. Interesting to see if that continues or if a few changes are made in their overall scheme.
Next years schedule doesn't look like it has many challenges for them. Graduation hits almost every team pretty hard.
Gonna be an interesting off-season with the new teams possibly dropping down next year (Baxter and Winfield-Mt. Union) both trying to get the state to let them play 8 man before the new rotation. Supposedly, Gladbrook-Reinbeck coming off back to back class A titles is going 8man in '18 and Garrigan discussed it last year, will they drop down in '18?, who knows. Who closes up shop, who consolidates, who shares programs, who knows, who knows and who knows.
