From John Naughton Twitter:

"Biggest non-district 4-A buzz: Ames & Iowa City High play night before Iowa-ISU. Football weekend doubleheader."

Someone on here deserves some $$$ from the IHSAA...

??? I'll be shocked if this happens. We'll see. Perhaps they could actually play a high school game at Kinnick, which gets used like eight days a year.

There'll be some crossover, west/east games. But I'm with Iceland here, I don't see Ames/Iowa City High happening.

You're probably going to see...

Cedar Falls
Waterloo East
Waterloo West
-- all paired off against --
Fort Dodge
Marshalltown
Mason City
** might get a double dip between a few of these **

Ottumwa vs. Indianola

Other than that, gonna be pretty divided and some local 3A fillers.

Is it impossible for 4A to play just 4A teams, or have the numbers changed since the East is down to 22 teams?

Of course, they could franky...there's an even number of teams. But the whole purpose of essentially having four games(five in the five-team districts) that don't count, is that you can play games against a lower classification at no penalty. And the ability to play schools in a lower classification, in closer proximity, should help many of these schools with less travel and better gates because of higher local interest combined with that minimal travel.

What would people think of a West/East match-up?

Valley v. City
SEP v. IC West
Waukee v. Lin Mar
Dowling v. Bett

All these changes are being made, why not spice some things up and create some interesting matchups that would get people talking and in the seats.
