Second Waukee high school

I don't think it would, Valley people are more than satisfied being that big. Also if you look at enrollment projections Valley isn't growing at all, they are essentially land locked with no room for growth.

West Des Moines spent a MFT to update/renovate Valley High School a few years back. They could see the projections and knew they just needed to spiffy up their existing building that was still not at capacity.

its kind of a setback for Waukee because they're just starting to be a solid second tier team only to be setback by splitting in two. FWIW, I've never seen a district go from being a 3A school to being so big it has to split in half in such a short window of time.

I couldn't disagree with your philosophy any more. Your entire statement is from the standpoint that the reason for high school athletics is solely based on state championships. I see this as only a benefit in that they are allowing for 2X the number of kids to be actively involved in all extra curricular activities.

I don't see Waukee struggling after the splint, the clientele they have in that community means that they will be fine. Just like Ankeny was fine after their split. I would guess that in another 10-12 years both Waukee and Ankeny will have 3 high schools.

obviously making the decision to split based on sports teams is ludicrous but you can't deny that Waukee will probably backslide after splitting up. They're just starting to be a contender as it stands and being split up might make it even harder to go up against teams that not only have one-way players but solid backups to those players.

Both Ankeny Schools are decent but you can't tell me with a straight face that they are as good as they were when they had guys like Foley, Naylor, Leo, Begg etc. From 2001-2012, Ankeny made it to the quarterfinals each year, the semis nine of those years, the title game twice and won state once. Waukee hasn't had nearly that much success so how Ankeny is doing is probably there best case scenario.
