well so far the season has been very interesting to say the least. Hudson has remained the highest ranked teams, and rightfully so, as they’ve played a very difficult schedule and remain perfect. District 7 all year has beaten up on each other. However, is this district overrated? Grundy just had a tough game with a low quality playoff team in Newman. But Newman had a decent game with bishop Garrigan so does that mean Newman’s? a tough out? Time will tell. And it seems no one knows a thing about Avoca. They’ve quietly dominated everyone they play. They are playing some pretty awful teams so I’m not sure how good they are. Bishop Garrigan, Belmond, and West hancock are all very legit teams in north central Iowa. Expect 1 of those teams to be in the dome. I also really like Akron as a legit threat in the playoffs. They are big and talented. Anyone else have some input on how teams up this point have done in there region in the state?

District 7 is not overrated lol that’s one thing I can tell you for sure.
Britt don’t even make playoffs I’m guessing so must be banking on belmond or garrigan going to the dome

Lol other then Hudson, West Hancock would beat all those teams and Garrigan and Belmond could compete if not beat Hudson in my opinion. My top 10 go: Hudson, Garrigan, Avoca, West Hancock, Belmond, North Tama, Akron, BGM, Sload Westwood, Edgewood. Honorable mentions: Wapsie, Hinton, St Ansger, St Alberts

Didn’t Garrigan just beat North Union 12-6? How can you have them in the top ten let alone #2? Hudson probably not #1, maybe #3 or #4. But they beat NT in OT by a FG, they beat Wapsie in the last 1:30 of the game. NT also beat WV in the last 90 seconds of the game. So if you believe Hudson is all that, and therefore North Tama, (NT eeked by Grundy and WV) then I would say District 7 is NOT underrated. And East Buch is no easy game either. Hudson is beatable though.

Garrigan played with 5 starters hurt and 2 with the flu.. just saying. I was at the game and garrigan literally had sophomores starting who had never seen the varsity field before

Garrigan beat west Hancock, belmond, emmetsburg, Newman... all of those are very quality wins. In which I think they deserve a top 3 spot

What sophomores did garrigan start. I remember seeing their starting RBs and LBs for sure that should’ve been more than enough to win easily

We missed are 2 starting defensive ends, starting DT, Starting QB, D1 tight end, 2 offensive guards, and our starting safety. I think it was 5 total players and 8 positions total. They did end up putting in our QB i believe mid way in the 3rd quarter. I’m not going to sit here and blame everything on injury. The team did not play well and we underestimated a solid NU team. However this is a part of every team and it does greatly affect the game. Just ask Alburnett fans how awful it is to lose all state caliber kids. Thank goodness they’ll be back for the rest of the season. Playing west Hancock and belmond right in a row took a toll on our kids bodies. 2 very big physical teams. NU has a solid team. Not sure why they don’t run just a completely spread offense, because they had some athletic tall receivers and very good QB. imho, they could legit have 3-4 wins if they ran the right offense with there personnel. Last year they ran the wing T, so they are taking steps in doing that. You are right though @Warriors, Garrigan’s huge linebackers did play. NU Garrigan game has pretty fun to watch the past 4 years. NU always comes to play there best against us.

Outside of west Hancock. All of north unions losses have been 1 score. They would’ve ran more of a spread last year but the kid playing QB this year played 6 weeks in a cast last year. It’s his first year ever playing QB.

I’m not trying to say district 7 isn’t a top 2 district because it clearly is. What I am saying though is that it’s nonsense to say that teams like East Buc, and Grundy Center, could win pretty much every other district other then 3. Yes both teams could win some really atrocious districts, but there’s just no way they could win pretty well most of the districts in the state. Belmond has the best defensive player in the state, a top 5 QB, and a top 5 running back. Did I also mention they have some elite receivers? Oh, and there line is big and physical. To say there not top 10, is a big exaggeration. And most people agree Garrigan and Britt are pretty legit but so is belmond. And people just seem to completely ignore Avoca. They are destroying teams. There running back is definitely one of the best in the state as well. He’s really fast and really strong. I also think teams are sleeping on BGM. They have played against some pretty solid teams and have consistently won. I agree they’ve played some bad ones too but so does every team at some point in there season. There not very big though so I’m wondering if there going to be able to go toe to toe with the bigger teams in class A. I will agree with you guys tho, I probably do overrate Hudson a little, but I think that’s party due to the fact they were the only team that could even compete with west souix last year, and so that’s why I give them a ton of respect

I think this class is wide open as far as who wins the championship. Hudson is good , but very young. They lost some elite athletes from last years runner up team. Wapsie , NT and St.Ansgar are all capable of beating anyone if they get in. the west side is an unknown to me but I am sure there are a lot of very good teams out there. i don't think we have a team as dominant as West Sioux in the class this year.

Yes that is very odd. Wonder if they had to forfeit some games maybe but I don’t ever remember hearing that. Can’t belive the state is just over looking this? And there is definitely no 1 dominant team. I’d say there’s 4-5 teams who are competing for the chip/dome trip, and then 4-5 wildcards who could make the dome and possibly even win it with a bit of luck. Don’t be surpised if you see a team with 2 losses winning it all this year. That’s how wide open this year is

Yeah and just looking Bellevue is 7-0 on their quikstats page so what the hell is going on cuz state page has them 4-3I also heard nothing about them having to forfeit any wins or anything either. The state needs to fix the edco record because this will mess up the rpi

Westwood is looking like a high caliber team these past few weeks. The past three games Westwood has given up only 28 points total, 14 points to Lo-Ma, 6 points to Woodbury Central, and 8 points to West Monona. They also have a pretty good offense. They have a huge line that simply destroys people up front. They also have a really good quarterback and their running back has 900 yards through 7 games. If they keep putting up points I could see them making a run deep into the playoffs. They end the season with two tough games against Tri Center and Lawton-Bronson. Anyone have any thoughts on this district?
