Using the Elo-Chess ratings (one of Sagarin's ratings), you can see how absurd some of these teams in the playoff are, especially when none of Alabama/SCar/Ole Miss made it

Top 5 wins of some playoff teams

Team A - 21, 43, 63, 67, 92
Team B - 22, 27, 35, 53, 71
Team C - 24, 32, 36, 49, 73
Team D - 38, 68, 75, 95, 102
Team E - 18, 24, 28, 42, 45
Team F - 31, 43, 46, 47, 57
Team G - 11, 54, 59, 76, 83

Top 5 wins of 3 SEC teams that didn't make the playoffs

Team AA - 2, 12, 44, 50, 58
Team BB- 10, 19, 28, 44, 78
Team CC - 2, 12, 16, 19, 60

Oklahoma was a "Bad loss" for Bama, but what's most interesting tome is that of those 7 playoff teams I listed their top 5 wins, there's only one regular season win among the 84 regular season games that they played that was to a team rated higher than Oklahoma's lowest rated loss. And that is friggen Army at 18 (Team E is obviously ND). Oklahoma's 6 losses were to 4, 7, 12, 13, 16, 19.

I was against expanding from 4 to 12, but if 12 teams is just going to be a DEI playoffs, then expand it to 16 or 20. Lot of teams are thrilled to be lining up against SMU/Indiana/Clemson/Boise over the next few weeks instead of Alabama/South Carolina/Ole Miss.

The automatic top 4 seed bids to conference champions is absurd. Boise and Arizona State belong nowhere near the top 4. I think they’re going to change it before the start of next season. They’ll make it where they get an automatic bid but they’re correctly seeded.

I thought the current format was locked in for this year and next? Either way, even if they can change it for next year, there will be wholesale changes before the 2026 season. I wouldn't be surprised to see further movement from the SEC/Big 10 towards two super conferences.

Heather Dinich said they have meetings the day of the National Championship to discuss potential changes in seeding.

They should just use the coaches poll for seeding. They know better than anyone who the best teams are. Much more football knowledge than the morons at the CFP.

I agree but that will require the people that matter actually making those picks.

Because that poll doesn't matter, none of the coaches really pay any attention to it. SID's, or someone way more junior, make those picks at most schools. My nephew made them one week while he was a GA at LSU.

Now if the actual coaches started doing it, it would be the better poll imo.

Hopefully that is a one and done.

You can pick your friends, and you can pick your nose. But, you can't pick your friend's nose.
