SC Heelan @ SC East

Watch out for Heelan WR Odessa Clark he is lightning quick on the football field and will have multiple kick return TD's this year.

I wonder what makes these kids decide when they get to be a sophomore in high school that they all of a sudden want a better education. I know it can't be just to play sports. The last couple of years you didn't hear anything about kids transferring into the Heelan program. It's only now that they graduated an outstanding group of seniors that you hear about this kid from West and other kid playing quarterback (this one was just rumor). Good luck to both teams tonight, it should be a fun one to watch.

The QB is from way out of state, one of the southern states with an "A", don't remember which one exactly. He was an OK baseball player, but didn't really have any wow factors athletically.

West followed typical West protocol... they all played their freshmen sports together and then the day after the city title game in basketball it was like a crew abandoning ship.

6 or 7 good freshmen boy athletes ended up spreading out between the 3 other schools in town.

Boetger (Reynolds) has gotten that stopped for female athletics over there, in fact, they have even gotten some girls to leave their schools to come to West, but male athletics is still missing a foundational/stable successful program to hold kids there it seems.

He was only a sophomore at west last year. I have watched him play for many years and believe me he will make an impact this season. Easily there best WR/KR and fastest player.

And I'm not sure about all these transfers from WEST you speak of because I only know of 2 or 3 that actually transferred the last few years. And even if kids transfer for Sports that's well within their right so what's the problem. What's good about the world we live in you have the right to change schools, jobs, location, and anything else that you see as a better fit or opportunity.

I've heard he's pretty quick; his brother is a freshman who is seeing varsity time. The Weghers are the last freshmen to do that, so he must be pretty good. Heelan has some playmakers, but they have to get them the ball which, with the QB play we saw tonight, may be a problem. Trying to remember a more listless Heelan effort--particularly on offense in the first half. No examples come to mind. I think we'll find that East will be an average team this year, so the pitiful performance doesn't bode well for Heelan. They have much work to do if they are to even come close to reaching their stated goals.

Im pretty sure that is the first time the senior class at east has beaten that senior class at heelan.

And i know wegher is not there but that junior class was pretty amazing when they were younger..

East boys put in some hard work the last few years.. I know quite a few on both teams and im happy to see those seniors at east get a big win like that and frustrating as heck for the heelan guys... interesting start to the season.. hope they both have great years here on out.

East left a lot of points on the field. Three times on the 2...or 1...and only 6 points. Heelan will be fine in 3a...but they should feel fortunate they don't play the likes of Dowling, Waukee, Valley, SEP...

Heelan could not possibly have played worse--and they left plenty of points on the field themselves.

If this is anything like last year, the teams will go in the opposite directions. It would be interesting to see what would happen if these two played at the end of the season. Methinks it would be a little different. No matter, Heelan will not be "fine in 3A" with another performance like that. There are a number of 3A teams who would beat East.

Sour grapes much? Good Lord man... you can get your point across that Heelan played poorly without belittling the team that beat them. Humility, Heelan. Heelan, Humility. I know it's been awhile since the two of you knew each other, but you might need to get comfortable with one another for a few years.

heelan played a fairly close game with east last year and nobody knew heelan was as good as they were....as the year went along, they were beating everyone soundly in 3a, and ended the season as champs of 3a. in 3a, heelan ,if i remember right, did not even have a struggle with anyone, even in the playoffs.....its too early to say heelan is done for the season, i am not sure if anyone in their district will beat them this year....they have lot of new guys in the lineup, and transfer qb, they will only get better as the season plays out

as I mentioned..heelan will be. just fine.... they won't play anyone of East's caliber until the quarterfinals or state championship. let's be honest Cru... they play in an average at best district... and poor might be the best description. as far as East's season...they will get better... providing they avoid injuries. If you noticed, they started 15 juniors, which should allow for them to improve as the season goes along.

As far as going in the opposite direction..East did lose their top two quarterbacks..and played a 4A schedule in which they won a playoff game. You know..4A...thevdivision heelan got out of because they realized they would never win a football championship there. They would certainly beat most 4A teams... but not the big boys in the suburbs of Des Moines. Valley hung 49 on East twice and were good sports about it.... Dowling throttled Valley twice last year and Dowling might be better this year... get the picture?

what will change is East will play two teams that are clearly superior to Heelan in Dowling and Johnston. let's face it... when Spencer or St.Bluff are the toughest teams left on your slate... life is good.

you keep mentioning Heelan's poor play but East never trailed and had more mistakes than Heelan did..East gave the ball away more than heelan did. What you really need to consider is East's style of play... two platoon and up-tempo. by the 3rd quarter you could see a lot of tired heelan kids... most of whom were going both ways.

Sour grapes..sour milk... you show signs of both. The East kids played really hard... ran the ball 40+ times...heelan knew what was coming but couldn't stop it. Heelan plays a lot of kids on both sides of the ball.... you can get away with that for a while... but when you play teams that force a fast tempo it will catch up with you.

As far as other 3A teams beating East.... come on man... you put 31 on heelan..have 400 yards offense... that just wasn't a good statement. Once again...Heelan won't lose a game until deep in the playoffs.

cru...love your passion for the Crusaders, you are a great fan. But you really should accept the fact that Heelan just flat out got beat and the only factor in what caused it was the team on the other side of the field.

I call it like I see it.....and disagree with just about everything in your assessment. Heelan will have to get better, or they'll be lucky to get into the post-season. But time will tell. I doubt that this discussion is over.
