Sad state of high school football...

10-0 Bettendorf
10-0 CR Kennedy
9-1 CR Washington
8-2 Pleasant Valley
7-3 IC High
7-3 CR Jefferson
5-5 North Scott
4-6 IC West

Pair from the top and the bottom. They could have swapped IC High and CR Jefferson, but to say that CR Kennedy should have been playing IC High is stupid. CR Kennedy deserved the weaker opponent and were rewarded correctly.

As for what's remaining in the west for the quarterfinals, they paired the last #1 with the #3 and paired the #2's together. Sorry, the state got it right. I'm usually very skeptical of how the state puts their pairings together, but in 4A this year, they've got them all right.

Curious what the original post said? Last night's pairings were fine. Kennedy had the most points if you use the old 13 point system so you could say that they should have City High in the quarters. But the Kennedy Wash match up in the quarters makes a lot of logistical sense too. This is a week two rematch for both of the quarters.

It said this...
This is the exact reason Todd Tharp and the state is a joke. In the east it should have been Kennedy vs City High, Washington vs North Scott, Jefferson vs PV, and Bett vs City West. The state didn't want three CR teams in the quarterfinals and two in the semifinals, yet Valley and Dowling are right next to each other and they don't play this round. You wonder why Valley, Dowling, and Bett make it to the semifinals every year. The state is shameful and it's not in athletics for the benefit of students or fairness for all schools that compete. It's extremely tilted for the schools mentioned above and you wonder why no schools can compete anymore in 4A. It's not right.

I agree with Screwloose, while I would like to see them bracket it up and let the path be known, the State has been spot on with the pairings so far, no complaints here

I think everyone is upset that because in the lower classes you have teams that are 40-50 miles apart playing each other and then they are shipping teams 100-150 miles to play other teams.

I mean you have Johnston, 2 Des Moines Schools, and Council Bluffs. Why not send Johnston to CB and have the two des moines schools play each other?

That way its not an all Des Moines Semifinal. I think that is what some people are getting upset with, because it happens every year. But oh well, nothing you can do, the state is in control.

Dowling is the top seed in the West (only remaining 1 seed) , Lewis Central is the lowest remaining seed (a 3 seed) Valley and Johnston were both 2 seeds. So if we go purely by seeding, the State got it dead on. Who cares if we have an all West Des Moines semifinal? If the two best teams in the West come from West Des Moines, than by all means they should meet in the Semi's, not the quarterfinals. To say otherwise is ridiculous.

Why go based on seeding in 4A, but not in any other class? Seems strange to me.

I think it's strange that the other classes don't go based on seeding. This is the playoffs, after all. Why wouldn't the matchups be based on seedings?

when you get to this point does it really matter who you play, everyone is good or they would not have made it this far. Do I think the State wants Dowling and Valley playing in the dome, damn straight I do... am I losing any sleep over it? Nope.
