Getting to this a little late as I kind of spaced it off. Just trying to have some fun and guess who will be matched up where come next round. Below are my predicted winners of tonights games and then the matchups I see teams going to for the quarterfinals along with predicted records and mileage even though it looks like that is going to be irrelevant after seeing some of the states pairings for all classes this round:
HLV (10-1)
West Bend Mallard (10-1)
Don Bosco (11-0)
Central Elkader (11-0)
Fremont Mills (11-0)
Glidden Ralston (11-0)
Coon Rapids Bayard (10-1)
Exira-EHK (9-2)
Here are my predicted matchups:
West Bend Mallard (10-1) @ Don Bosco(11-0) (151 Miles)
HLV (10-1) @ Central Elkader (11-0) (123 MIles)
Coon Rapids Bayard (10-1) @ Fremont Mills (11-0) (125 Miles)
Exira-EHK (9-2) @ Glidden Ralston (11-0) (45 Miles)
Total shot in the dark with all of the games really. Its hard telling if the state will want to avoid district rematches again this round or not. If they dont then this is how I see it being laid out. The west side is pretty interesting looking at this scenerio in my eyes. The Glidden-Exira matchup epecially. Glidden has lost 5 games over the past 2 seasons and 4 of them have been to Exira-EHK. This may be the year for them to get over that Spartan hump and make it to the dome. Similar scenerio with Coon Rapids and Fremont Mills. Coon Rapids has beat Fremont Mills in the first round of playoffs each of the past two seasons and they would look to be the team to oust them again.
With the east the Don Bosco and West Bend matchup really sticks out to me as the highlighted game there. This would be the toughest test by far the Dons have faced since probably last year finals game against Exira-EHK while West Bend will be looking to make their first trip to the dome as an 8 player school. The HLV and Central Elkader game is a big unknown for me. Central has been steam rolling people all year but just from reading what people think they are beginning to question the competition they have played. HLV would give them a real test and make them prove that those scores aren't flukes.
Its going to be interesting to see how the state sends teams to play. A lot of matchup possibilities. Feel free to comment, criticize, or make suggestions as to where everyone thinks teams will be heading for the quarterfinals.
