I was looking at some stats on Quik Stats and noticed that Turkey Valley had a lot of tackles for one game. So I went to the team and saw that one guy had 75 solo tackles in the game against Kee High. He either was all over the field or the stat program messed up. Who would have to fix that Quik Stats or Turkey Valley?

Pretty sure it's up to the coaches for QuikStats. Tackle figures are never to be believed anyway. For example, Mediapolis is credited with 61 solo tackles, non were assisted. Interestingly, WB/ND only ran 42 plays from scrimmage. Two resulted in TD's while 5 others were incomplete passes. Not sure how many kick-off, punt, interception or fumble returns there were, but suspect it was less than the 26 tackle discrepancy in a 14-12 game.

Picked a team near the top of tackle stats, they have 20% more tackles than their opponent's touches than didn't end in a TD.

Another sample had 30 more tackles in a single game than other team had touches, number of touches was <50.

Lone Tree vs Tri-County, LT had 49 tackles TC 47 touches, pretty darn close. LT had 30 touches vs 18 TC tackles. Makes since that tackles should be lower than touches with the occasional slip, fumble not lost or running out of bounds.

Assuming every touch including INT's & fumble recoveries resulted in a tackle for all counts, minus touches that resulted in a TD.

Looks like Turkey Valley must of caught the error. 51.5 tackles in 56 touches.

Many times, the people keeping stats at HS games don't have a clue. There's no training, and no manual. Every school should download a copy of the NCAA stat manual (free PDF) for reference, especially when it comes to tackles and penalty assessment.
