Add in game scores, talk, and finals here as the teams have a berth to the UNI-Dome on the line now!

St Ed's 35-13 over SCC. Final. It was much closer than score would indicate. Great game.

Not a bad prediction for me in the Quarterfinal Breakdown thread.

"I think FDSE scores more than 21 points. Only twice this season they've
scored less than 30 (Garrigan in the 1st game of the year and Manson in
a 21-0 game). FDSE put up 38 against them last game. I'll take FDSE
34-14."

In a sense it was a closer game than score would indicate. However, once SE scored on next possession the momentum changed and O Tool took over the game.O Tool got torked off and ran like he is capable of. SC qb had a great game, 196 passing. OTool had 260+. SE qb played with broken wrist. 1-2 passing. Did have one run. Had to hurt just taking snaps. So great hitting all night long. Both teams will be hurting in the morning. Extra will help SE recover for sure. Hats off to SSC. Great team with great fans. They have to be 1 of the favorites going into next year. They have a lot coming back. Go Gaels!

This semifinals will be one of the best we've seen in some time. SE vs WL is a match-up with two very similar style teams. There will be some hitting in that game. SW looks for real. Some questioned their ability based on a fairly mediocre schedule but they should have removed all doubt tonight. Dike was on fire and SW blew them out and expanded the score variance from the first meeting. I don't know that SW will be able to hang with Regina for 4Qs but they should be able to score some points against them.

Turning point was that blocked extra point IMO. That kinda stalled the momentum for SCC and the Gaels came out angry on that next drive and took over with the ground game. By that last scoring drive, you could tell SCC was worn down. The Gaels had been stymied a bit in the 2nd qtr and into the 3rd, but a key change that I believe the coaching staff picked up on after their first drive of the 3rd qtr made a big difference in the success of the SE running game, and from there the Gaels were back to their old selves pounding relentlessly at their opponent for the final 21 points of the contest.

I agree that while the margin of victory was larger this time around (22 to 16), this was a much tougher ball game by a very much improved South Central Calhoun team. I do think both teams had some big-game nerves to start the game (false starts and botched snaps/fumbles), but once they settled in it was a fun game to watch. And while SCC showed that they're a very dangerous team throwing the ball from their spread attack, I think SE proved that they are much better this year against the pass than last year (the Gaels did return all of their defensive backfield). Raff Naughton had 2.5 to 3 sacks (depends on who you ask I guess

) and probably could've had more. The Gaels missed a few opportunities early on for sacks/tackles for a loss, particularly on SCC's first scoring drive which was kept alive by a 4th down fumble recovered by a lineman who fell ahead for the 1st down.

Gaels now get West Lyon and expect yet another smashmouth football game between these two traditional power running teams. Good luck to the Gaels, and I agree, I expect to see SCC back in contention next year just adding to the crazy number of teams, good teams at that, that will return a solid majority of their lineups.

Maybe by then Coach Case will have also thrown out that swinging gate trick play they tried to run tonight.

(sorry I had to mention it.)

Yeah that's kind of the matchup we've been looking at for a potential semifinal. SE has met up with several traditionally strong running teams this season. Kinda interesting that the Gaels will have faced both Class A West semifinalists from last year (AHST and now West Lyon), and add Madrid into that mix as one of those traditional rushing powers. They led Class 1A in total rushing yards before tonight and are always among the tops in those categories.

The Gaels and Wildcats were #2 and #3 in rushing before tonight and will most likely be #1 and #2 for next weekend's game.

Starting in 2010 when they gave up 53 points in 14 games it has been a pretty good run.
