How did the high school football season go overall?
“We ended up 6 – 3 [during the] regular season and runner up in the conference to Waverly Shell Rock. We lost in the first round of the playoffs to North Scott. We started the season off with a tough schedule. Opening game was against State Champions Xavier and our 2nd game was State Semi Finalist North Scott. We lost to both. We also lost our Senior QB against North Scott. Our coach moved up Brett Harris, a freshman, for our 3rd game against #6 North Liberty. That game was where we turned it around. None of us wanted to go 0 – 3. We all played with all our heart and everyone emptied the gas tank in that game. It was one of the most exciting, wild and craziest games I have ever been a part of. That last 6 minutes was back and forth. With 19 seconds left. Brett Harris in his first start at varsity throws the ball a good 55 yards on the run to our receiver Davyon Gaston in the endzone for the win! After that we went on a five game winning streak.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“My father is a personal trainer and we have a gym at our house. We have a really good strength program at WD too. I train with Coach Jasper and Coach Penner. They do a great job with getting us ready. I am also getting ready for track and 7 on 7. I am on the Iowa Gators team and we travel all over. I really like it. We train all winter and go to tournaments. I feel this really gets me ready for the season. Keeps me in football season shape. Our coach Matt Meek really does everything to help us get recognized by colleges.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“I feel we have a good shot at State. We are returning a lot of good athletes. Our team was really young this year. We come back with a lot of returning good athlete starters.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“Depending on the schedule. We usually play Xavier and North Scott the first 2 games. I can’t really say just 1 tough team. Those two teams are our toughest rivalries. Xavier loses Aiden McDermott but they return some great players. They also have one of the best coaches in Iowa, Coach Schulte. North Scott will be tough as they are every year. Another team with a really good coach – Coach Tippet. I have a lot of respect for both teams’ programs and always look forward to playing them.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“N/A.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“Yes. I want to play football in college. Maybe run track too.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“Iowa and Iowa State.”

What school is recruiting you the hardest?
“Iowa has talked to me. Iowa State had me down for a game. NIU is showing a lot of interest in me now too. Offensive and defensive coordinator has reached out to me.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“Yes. I went to the Iowa State vs Texas Tech game with my mom and dad. That was a great experience. It was fun to eat with the coaches and then go down on the field during warm ups. Miami of Ohio invited us to a game, but my dad got really sick. I was really bummed that I couldn't go. Looks like a great school and football program. North Dakota State stays in contact with me.”

Do you have plans for any trips soon?
“No trips are planned right now. I would love to see as many school programs as possible.”

Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“Yes. The Iowa Hawkeyes are my favorite college team growing up. I really like Iowa State now too. They have a really nice program.”
