What have you been doing as of late with off-season workouts?
“I’ve been doing a lot of at home workouts, going on 20 mile bike rides once a week, and hitting the YMCA or weight rooms as much as possible.”

What are your goals for the season?
“I think that this season is going to be a big shock to everyone. We are going to be very good, the past couple years we’ve been young and have struggled with injuries throughout the team. But if we can stay healthy this year, I think there’s nothing we can’t get done. I know all the guys on the team are all shooting for the UNI-dome. West Burlington Notre Dame has never won a playoff game and I know that this year is definitely going down in the record books.”

What areas do you feel your team needs to improve on?
“I think as a team we need to keep our eye on the bigger picture and keep each other accountable. We’ve done a good job with this in the past and I do truly believe that we are more of a family than a team but this year it’s extremely important if we want to reach our full potential.”

Who is your opponent in the season opener and how do you feel about them overall?
“Our first game is against Fort Madison. It has always been a competitive game in the past, and I think throughout the season we must respect our opponents and not get big heads, but I think it’s going be a big statement game for us. People will start to open up their eyes and see WBND as a threat.”

How has Covid factored into your off-season workouts?
“COVID-19 has affected our summer workouts a lot. Obviously, our workouts were shortened because of Covid and we weren’t allowed in the weight room, but we moved some dumbbells, benches and box jumps outside. A lot was put on the individuals to find ways to work out on their own and we did a good job adapting to the situation and continuing to get better.”

How do you feel your team will do this football season?
“We will be shocking a lot of people and we will have a very successful season.”

Who do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“I think Williamsburg and Mid Prairie will both be very tough. Williamsburg has always been very good and Mid Prairie returns a lot.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against this fall?
“I don’t know many individuals on other teams. Our district changed this year so I guess we’ll find out when we start watching film.”

Why did you pick South Dakota State?
“South Dakota State really stuck out to me because of the people there. They are very genuine and good people. It meant a lot to me that they were my first D1 offer. They reached out to me first and since day 1 I really liked them. I thought it was important to me that they truly evaluated me and that I was one of their 3 O-Line recruits. It’s obvious that their success on the field is special and I hope to continue the winning tradition and hopefully bring home a couple national championships.”

How important was the coaching staff in your decision?
“The coaching staff was huge in my decision. They are very genuine people and I can’t wait to continue to build relationships with all of the coaches there.”

What other colleges were you considering?
“The other colleges I was considering were Northwest Missouri State, Missouri Western and Central Missouri. I really liked all the coaches at those schools, but South Dakota State really stuck out to me the most and the opportunity to play Division 1 football was something I couldn’t turn down. My family and I have been praying a lot about this and I truly believe that SDSU is the right place for me.”

Have you been able to visit SDSU?
“I haven’t been able to get up and see the campus in person, but I’ve talked to some current players and I’ve been on some virtual tours.”

What was the hardest part of the recruiting process?
“The hardest thing about the recruiting process was turning down some schools and coaches that I really liked.”

What is different about you as an athlete in comparison to your peers that has allowed you to be a Division I recruit?
“I think the major thing that separates me from others is my work ethic. I take pride in outworking everyone.”
