How did the basketball season go for your team?
“I believe the season went pretty well as whole, although I do believe with the talent we had an 18-6 record was not as good as we could’ve done. We played pretty good ball all season but had a couple of letdown losses that were definitely winnable games. We had two senior bigs that just found ways to score the ball along with us underclassmen wings that liked pushing the ball up the floor. We had a more modern offensive approach with many 3-pointers incorporated in our offense.”

What are your workout plans now going forward?
“This summer, I will be in the gym almost every day working my craft. Whether I’m up there playing 5 on 5 with my team or just shooting and doing drills by myself, I always find time to get in the gym. I will also be lifting all summer to be able to come back bigger and stronger for my junior season.”

What are you trying to improve on the most this off-season?
“On the offensive end, I believe the thing I need to work on the most is my quickness, ball handling, and my ability to beat my defender off of the dribble and get to the rack. Also moving without the ball is another thing I’d like to work on to always keep the defense moving. On the defensive end of the floor, my main focus is just intensity and play with a lot of energy to force turnovers and contested shots.”

What AAU team are you playing for this off-season? How do you feel your team will be?
“I have decided to not play on an AAU team to put more focus on baseball this summer. My school basketball team plays in a spring and fall league at Loras College and also attends many team camps in the summer. These games and then personal workouts I believe will help me improve my game without playing AAU while still being able to play baseball.”

How do you believe your high school basketball team will be next season?
“I believe next basketball season will be another great year for us with a state tournament run definitely a possibility. We lost two very key seniors in Cameron Wilhelm and Logan Miller, but we are returning three starters and our 6th man from last season. I believe we will be very good offensively with a lot of great shooters and very athletic guards that can get a lot of buckets in transition. The defensive end of things is the main thing I think we need to work on, but I know Coach Dan Beck will do a great job preparing us defensively with great scouting on the opposing teams.”

What is the toughest game on your schedule for 2018-2019?
“The toughest game on our schedule this winter is by far North Linn. This is a very easy one to pick as they have finished third and second in the state the last two years. This all while returning their best player in my opinion, Jake Hilmer. Hilmer is a great player and makes it very hard for us to defend him because he knows how to score himself but makes his teammates so much better with his great passing ability. North Linn will be very tough, but if we are able to slow them down in transition and limit Jake, I believe we can compete with them and even pull off a win.”

What sport do you want to play in college?
“Basketball would definitely be my first choice to play at the next level. Basketball has always been my favorite sport and was the game I fell in love with at a very young age. I will say though that if I had a chance to play baseball and felt I would succeed more in that sport, I would go the baseball route.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“I have not yet been in touch with any colleges. I haven’t really put my name out there yet, and with me not playing AAU, it makes it tough. I believe if I choose to play AAU next summer, then I think some coaches may reach out to me.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“I have not yet made any college visits. I will start taking college trips this fall and spring of my junior year.”

What camps are you going to this summer?
“For the most part, I usually attend a couple of smaller camps during the off-season and I plan do that again. I also plan on attending Snow Valley at Wartburg this July. I feel this camp would be very beneficial to my game.”

Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“My favorite college growing has always been the University of Iowa. Both of my parents grew up Hawkeye fans, so it wasn’t ever really an option for me to cheer for anyone else. I have also followed Duke basketball very close and been a fan of them.”
