How did the basketball season go for your team?
“This season can be described as my assistant coach Coach Dru Robinson did in one word, underachieved. We had a great squad of guys, but we didn’t get as much work in as we should of as a group over the last off-season. We just hired a whole new coaching staff this year, so everyone had to adjust and get used to a new philosophy. Our new head coach, Drake Schuring, is a great coach. He has the drive to want to better his players.”

What are your workout plans now going forward?
“I play basketball everyday once or twice depending on if I have time between school, school work, lifting, football, track, or any other prior commitments. Coach Jace is our new lifting coach and he is an amazing guy. He pushes us hard every day we are in there. For the people who have committed to him, we have all seen real, major gains.”

What are you trying to improve on the most this off-season?
“This off-season, I am most focused on second chance points, improving my shooting, and ability to handle the ball. I am a 6-foot-6 big in high school which compared to college is not even close to the height of a big. I am the height of a shooting guard so my handles should be a top priority this summer. Following up shoots I’ve learned over the years is huge as it can add easy points to averages and can even win games.”

What AAU team are you playing for this off-season? How do you feel your team will be?
“This year, I am playing for a local team called Waterloo Salvation. I am coached by Charles Masmar. He has coached this team for years now and every year he has some of the best players in the Waterloo area. I believe we can win tournaments with the squad we have and really surprise some people.”

How do you believe your high school basketball team will be next season?
“I’m very excited to see what this next season brings. I have a couple of my buddies who have been debating playing coming out next year. They play every day after school with me and could become key factors on the team.”

What is the toughest game on your schedule for 2019-2020?
“I would say either Denver or Dike.”

What sport do you want to play in college?
“I am 50-50 right now between basketball and football.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“To be completely honest, I’ve only had coaches for football contact me. St. Cloud State, Bemidji State, Air Force Academy, North Dakota, North Illinois, and Iowa State have all gotten in contact with me.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“So far, I’ve visited Iowa State, the University of Northern Iowa, and St. Cloud State University.”

What camps are you going to this summer?
“Snow Valley and some other football camps.”

Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“UNI has always been my favorite college as a kid. Going to every home game with my grandpa and sometimes getting lucky enough to sit courtside. I am super close to Bennett Koch who graduated from there last year and is now playing professionally for the Dutch Windmills. We used to work out together all the time.”
