The Q&A below is from Iowa City West head football coach Garrett Hartwig.
What type of player is he overall?
“He is one of the most coachable linemen we have had in my tenure. When you tell him something one time, the only reason he doesn’t do is because you told him to do something different. He is one of those kids that got 30 plus on his ACT. He has lineage. His older brother went on to play at Iowa State. His dad was recruited by my father in law at Iowa State or Iowa. He has that football background. He is a tough nosed kid. He is a great discus thrower too. He was a second team all district lineman last year. He has got a great frame and has put on 25 pounds this off-season.”
What is he working to improve on this off-season?
“Foot speed and upper body strength but I think I can say that about every high school lineman.”
What colleges have taken early notice of him?
“A number of FCS schools. I know that things will continue to pick up in April and May. I have talked to South Dakota, Northern Iowa, and Iowa State about him. They are aware of him and all want to work with them at their camps. He has a ton of potential and he’ll get bigger. He is 6-5 and about 250 (pounds) now.”
What level do you see him projecting out at in college?
“I can see him being a very successful FCS, Missouri Valley guy. He could maybe be a 3-4 year starter at that level but who knows. He might be a late bloomer. His brother got a lot bigger in college. He is so coachable and plays so hard. When you do those things, you give yourself a chance.”
