The Q&A below is from Iowa City West head football coach Garrett Hartwig.

What type of athlete is he overall?
“He is a legit Division I baseball recruit so I don’t know where he will fall. He is as strong as any kid at this point in our program. He is a 500-pound squatter and 330-pound hang cleaner as a sophomore. The physical strength is there. I don’t know where he fits to be honest. He is just so strong and fas. He is a bruiser and that is the best way to describe it.”

What will his role with you be this season?
“It is a lot of the same. He will carry the ball for us and he also has some fullback potential. He played a second tight end with us and was real effective. With baseball, his hand-eye coordination is good. I think he’ll be able to help. He can fill that role last year and be successful. We’ll see where it goes.”

Where does the strength come from with him being so young?
“He comes from a very strong background as far as genetics. His parents were pretty good athletes from what I understand. He has been playing sports his whole life and he works as hard as anyone.”

Does he have a sport preference?
“I would guess he is leaning towards baseball to be honest but I don’t know. I don’t talk to kids about it because I don’t want to put them into a situation regardless of the decision.”
