Preseason rankings?

It'll be a lot easier once we know who exactly is playing in class A. But I would say that West Sioux will still be solid. Hudson will be solid, Garrigan could be pretty good as well. Like I said though I don't think we know for sure who will be coming down from 1A or moving to 8 man for sure.

I really doubt it unless they have a huge class coming through, there will be 12 teams coming down from 1A with 4A losing 6 teams and 3,2 and 1A will be losing 2 teams

Doing a little research it looks like you're going to be right, looking at the BEDS document from last year (this years comes out sometime this month) it looks like West Sioux is a growing district, with most of their classes coming up having over 60 kids in them. Where as they had quite a few around 40 the last couple of years.

can someone provide a history for West Sioux? I don't really know much about that part of the state, but it feels like they came out of nowhere, not just the FB team but the school district itself. And it doesn't seem like an area that would be growing rapidly? Was there a merger or did another school in that area close? influx of South Dakotans or Minnesotans?

I need to be educated.

It has been around since 1960, I can't really say why they would be growing, but they are located basically half way between Sioux City and Sioux Falls.

They have had a rapid growth in the Hispanic population in recent years, most of which have come from athletic families. Most of the school has signs in both English and Spanish. All of the athletic facilities have been upgraded extremely nicely, minus the basketball gym. It's become a very high quality district in mostly all aspects

1. St. Ansgar
2. CBSA
3. East Buchanan
4. Lynville Sully
5. West Hancock
6. Hudson
7. Alburnett
8. Algona Garrigan
9. Westwood Sloan
10. Belle Plaine/ South Winn

Thoughts??

I would flip Hudson and St Ansger, and EB and West Hancock. Drop Alburnett as they are not a top 10 team. South Winn is a top 5 team dropping down from 1A.

Please keep posting Trout! The pirates didn't have enough motivation after last season.

Your absolutely right Sev, we should have Alb as preseason #1 after all they have had that one winning season in the last few years and their whole team was based on 1 guy who was 90% of their offense. But hey they are an outstanding football team who should be ranked ahead of traditional powers who are in the playoffs every year like Hudson, St Ansger, CBSA, South Winn, Waspie, West Hancock to name a few. When you knock off the big dogs you will earn respect, you dont get it by just one winning season. We will see ya sometime between week 4 and 9, hopefully we can compete with you guys if your heads arnt to big to get off the bus.

I don't understand the love for CBSA, yes I understand tradition, but they lose their leading passer, 4 leading rushers, 5 leading receivers, and 9/11 top tacklers.

St. Ansgar loses a lot as well

If we are honest the two top 10 teams who return much of anything are Hudson and Lynnville Sully, everyone else loses a ton. Teams coming down with a lot coming back are IKM-M, and AHSTW.

But overall class A is pretty wide open

Wow , patriots fan Trout? Not sure where I said anything about Alburnett being ranked #1. But you've been pretty quick to post on other threads that Alburnett is clearly not a top 10 team. You may be right , I understand the traditional powers argument. But I also think its a lot easier to replace one or two guys as opposed to 15-20.

Luckily these rankings ,and anybody else's , really don't matter, as it all gets settled eventually on the field.

No not a Pats fan at all, true blooded Packer fan. Its not the number of guys that teams have to replace its the quality of guys teams have to replace. I know teams that had maybe 15 seniors but maybe only 5 played a roll. I stated I didnt think Alb was a top 10 team because they lost 3 of top 4 RBs that totaled over 2300 yds rushing and at the same time lost 3 of top 4 receivers witch I know doesn't mean a ton because you don't throw a lot. Do you have some good players back sure you do but with your style of offense and those skill players lost along with a few o linemen I don't think you are a top 10 team compared to the other teams mentioned. This new district is wide open compared to the last few yrs and I think as many as 4 teams have a shot at the district title including us and Alb.

Cannot disagree with any of that. I like what the pirates have coming back. Mix in a little motivation and stability to coaching staff...But its a long way until fall. Injuries, transfers, grades and 16-17 year old minds , never know what you get when season actually starts
