The only real changes I could see (outside of who plays Regina and South Winn.....) is Western Christian going over to play Saint Ansgar, which is actually further away than South Central Calhoun. This would cause Hinton to move north to face West Lyon and South Central Calhoun would get IKM-Manning.

Honestly, I have no idea what the State is actually gonna decide to do with the Eastern teams. Ideally, you would think that Regina would get North Cedar and West Branch faces Dike-New Hartford, but then Saint Ansgar and particularly South Winn would be left with teams traveling close to 3 hours to play them.

Here's the distances of all my games from top to bottom:

Western Christian

Van Meter
AHST Avoca

South Winn
North Cedar

IC Regina
Central Decatur

West Branch
Dike New Hartford

St. Ansgar
South Central Calhoun

I think Central Decatur or AHST get the short end on the West side. DNH pretty much travels far regardless of who they get.

Here they are:

CLASS 1A:[/B]AHSTW, Avoca @ St. Edmond, Fort Dodge [/I]
Central Decatur, Leon @ Van Meter [/I]
Dike-New Hartford @ West Branch [/I]
Hinton @ IKM-Manning [/I]
North Cedar, Stanwood @ South Winneshiek, Calmar [/I]
Panorama, Panora @ Regina, Iowa City [/I]
South Central Calhoun @ Saint Ansgar [/I]
Western Christian, Hull @ West Lyon, Inwood

these pairings show me:

a) I was very confused about the IHSAA's thinking on pairings for Rd 2

b) Van Meter will travel to ICR if they both win Monday

I think you were on the right track, and that's how things probably would've went down had they not paired so many east teams with a west team with the belief they would win.

As for Van Meter-Regina, it certainly depends on what the State wants to do. If they want Regina to host the Qtr game, then Van Meter is their only option. All 3 other "Eastern" 1-seeds would host if they advanced because of the alphabet rule. That would also mean South Winn at West Branch, assuming they won......right, Blame?

Meanwhile on the West side, they'd get Saint Ansgar and it'd be rock-paper-scissors to decide which undefeated team gets to travel north 2 and a half hours to play 1-loss West Lyon (again, should all 1-seeds advance). Either way, with a win, IKM-Manning is looking at a road game, and most likely Saint Ansgar as well UNLESS the State pairs them with Regina.

Saint Ansgar is roughly 190 miles from Inwood (West Lyon), while Manning, in spite of being further south than Fort Dodge is actually closer at 155 miles, compared to 165 for FD. Fort Dodge is also only 116 miles from Saint Ansgar so more than likely, if Van Meter goes east and Saint Ansgar west, you'll see them face St. Edmond while IKM-Manning gets West Lyon.

Again, this is if all 1-seeds win on Monday. (Though considering your confidence in North Cedar to win, I'm guessing we're to assume that's not gonna happen.

P.S. To explain the West Lyon situation, West Lyon could be 8-3 facing an 11-0 team, but if all 3 losses came in non-district play, because of the alphabet rule regarding unbeatens based on DISTRICT play only, West Lyon will host a Quarterfinal should they advance.
