For me, it is going to come down to:

Dike-New Hartford
Van Meter
West Sioux

The fourth will come from the following list, I feel:

West Branch
Pella Christian
West Lyon

NOTES:

** West side of the state will be a tough road.
SC Calhoun is going to be a good team, but will probably have to go through Van Meter, Pella, West Lyon, or West Sioux to get to the Dome.

West Lyon will probably have to beat West Sioux to make it. Although the RPI might say otherwise.

West Branch may go 9-0 as their district looks to step back while the Bears will be strong on defense and upfront (if roster holds).

West Sioux has a lot to replace, but a duo of Cyclone recruit Dekkers and strong RB/WR hybrid Lynott make a difference. Lil Lynott will be a key addition.

Van Meter is loaded. They return the bulk of their squad from last season, minus a couple of OL and Iowa recruit Reimers. I'm sure they'll find a way.

I’ll keep it the same as last year...

West Sioux
Dike-New Hartford
Van Meter
Pella Christian

I really like Van Meter’s team this year. A great combo with their qb/rb and their physical style of play and hard-nosed defense.

It’ll be interesting to see who does in fact come out of the west side to get to the dome. West Lyon will challenge West Sioux in district play and will be a tough out come postseason. SSC will be tough as well and will continue their suffocating defensive play again this season. The combo of Dekkers/Lynott is hard to ignore and is one of the best tandems in the state regardless of class. Dekkers is an Iowa State commit.

Pella Christian’s tough schedule will prepare them once again for a postseason run, and they’ll have athletes I’m sure. Who will fill Treimer’s spot? That’s some big production that’s gone.

IMO there’s seven teams for four spots when it’s all said and done.

West side: West Sioux, Van Meter, SSC, and West Lyon

East side: Dike-New Hartford, Pella Christian, and West Branch

Any sleepers not mentioned? Thoughts? Can West Sioux make it a 3-peat?

I agree that West Sioux, Van Meter, SCC and DNH all look to be returning power. My only questions are around who the WB QB will be, but I don't think that's a big concern. I'm sure Butch has someone ready to do that job. Pella Christian I'm just really unsure about. I was not that impressed with them last year. They return weapons, but lose Treimer, I'm not saying they'll be bad, I'm just not ready to predict they'll have enough to make the dome run. I think you could put Osage into your list. A 1000 yd, 11 TD rusher back provides a nice base.

Osage will look to fill their qb spot but do return their rb and two key wrs..the question for them will be can they make stops against another potent offense. WB had their way with them last year in the first round. They should be able to again put up points but can they prevent them? We’ll see if they can make another postseason appearance. PC will need to replace the production from Treimer. Jungling might have to do more on offense this season.

Once they saw a good team (WB) last season they folded like a tent.

Williams had 22 carries for 62 yards against WB (per QuikStats), with a 20 yard carry coming against WB's reserves (I was at that game). Balbinot was a pretty good QB but was completely terrified in the pocket when he got pressure. I watched the Bellevue game in round two. They were definitely overrated.

I don't think the Green Devils will make much noise in the postseason. But everyone is certainly entitled to an opinion.
