Quarterfinals

Don Bosco, Gilbertville @ Central, Elkader
East Mills @ Glidden-Ralston
West Bend-Mallard @ Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn

NF wins handily (48-14) Bosco wins by a couple touchdowns (45-28). East Mills plays Gidden tough in the the first 3 quarters and then Glidden wins by a touchdown or two (32-23). MMC comes out slow but takes control in the second quarter and wins by 3+ touchdowns (45-21).

Semifinals

Newell-Fonda vs. Glidden
Don Bosco vs. MMC

Newell and Glidden battle it out in a pretty low scoring game. Glidden comes out on top by a touchdown. (21-14) MMC shuts down Bosco's high powered offense and wins by a couple scores. (38-21)

Finals

MMC vs. Glidden

This game comes down the the trenches. Both teams have had their way for the most part all year. Both have multiple options offensively. I look for it to be much like the second round game from last year. I think Glidden learns from that second round game last year and plays MMC extremely tough. Game goes back and forth until halfway through the 4th when Specht takes the game into his own hands and puts together a scoring drive to take the lead and they hold on to win it all (32-27)

MMC vs Glidden- Will be a hell of a ball game from two great teams. Glidden is looking for redemption after MMC took them down last season in the playoffs on Gliddens home field. MMC has too many weapons for Glidden to keep up with and they get the win in a high scoring affair.
NF vs DB- Another playoff rematch from last season. NF is too good for DB and wins by two scores., NF just shut down the best player in 8 man in Girress from GTRA and they look to have the most complete team in 8 man as they go for back to back ships.

Title Game
NF vs MMC- Not gonna predict a winner quite yet on this one. two very athletic, very well coached ball clubs. This will be a game you wont wanna miss especially with history between these two schools. MMC will need to rely on more than just specht if they want to win this game. For NF wise will need to get a little more involved in the offense rushing wise than he was last night. Cant wait for Friday to see who will punch their tickets to Cedar Falls

I agree with all of these predictions, but you are false on saying Girres got shut down. He wasn't close to being shut down as he ran for almost 200 yards on NF. Specht isn't as good as Girres is, but he's close, he's got the talent around him on top of being a good athlete, and thats what I see beating NF. I hope to see MMC take home a state title!

For the most part NF did shut Girres down. He only had 54 yards in the first half. He had a huge second half Just because of 2 or 3 big runs but other than that he was not his normal self. Nothing against him as he is by far the best player in 8 man this season but I believe he was pretty well shut down. Grant it shutting down Girres Is not like shutting down other athletes. Girres can get 175-195 yards and still be shut down based on what he can and usually does to teams

Conner Wolterman is having hand surgery this week. Had 3 pins put in his hand. Word is he won't play on Friday - but may be able to play with a cast if they make it to the Dome.

East Mills @ Glidden Ralston Too much size from Glidden for East Mills to compete with for 48 minutes. Expect it close till mid 3rd quarter before Glidden wears them down and pulls away.
Don Bosco @ Central Elkader - Could be a lot closer than what people will think. Still have to go with the Dons here though.
West Bend Mallard @ MMC - All depends on the health of West Bend. If their QB and lineman that got hurt in the first game against MMC can go this game will be a dog fight, if not then I have MMC winning by 2+ scores.

I like think I will have to disagree with you buck on your semi-final picks though. I think the state has their eye on the two teams they want to see who have consistently played the best against each other in the finals this year and I think that is MMC and Don Bosco. They will avoid putting MMC against Newell Fonda though in the semi's as that is their next best game they can produce up there so here is how I see it shaking out:

Don Bosco vs Newell Fonda - Newell's luck I feel runs out here. Don Bosco will come out firing after their defeat to Newell Fonda last year and avenge the loss in a close close game, except the break this game goes to Don Bosco rather than Newell. Late fumble seals the deal for the Dons.
Glidden Ralston vs MMC - Too much talent and athleticism for Glidden to compete with. Size wise MMC matches up well with Glidden for the first time all year with too much talent at the skilled positions to be able to keep pace.

NF IMO did shut Girres down. Yes he did have 196 rushing yards and 2 tds but look at how many carries it took to get there. At one point he had 16 carries for 52 yards. 3.25 ypc for the best player in 8 man isnt suppose to happen. His two tds were from 58 and 42 yds if I remember correctly. So 100 yards on two carries, 96 yards on the other 25 carries combined. Girres passing was 6 of 12 for 83 yards and 1 INT. I would say thats shutting him down.

Also, GTRA had scored 54 or more points the past 5 weeks. Earlier in the year they put up 40 on MMC. NF held them to 14. So not only did they make it very tough for Girres to get his yards. They also shut the rest of the team down.

NF played Girres the best he's seen all year for sure. I see what you are saying. But Girres is too good not to break a couple long runs vs whoever he plays. IMO, it doesn't take much from what I have seen to shut down the rest of Girres' teammates. His line is awful. The other skilled position players don't even compare to what the NF and MMC's of 8 man football have!

However, I really liked watching NF play that game. It was the first time I have seen them play in two years. They are so fundamentally sound and a lot better of a team than I had thought. Their is some good coaching in that program! Just a team that knows what each and everyone's assignment is on the football field.

Cant wait for tomorrow night though. Never seen Colo- Nesco play football before. Always interesting to see how teams play in big games when they have never been there before. Should be a fun one!
