Projected Winners (BlameIt):

FDSE
CDL
WB
IKM
Regina
SA
North Cedar
WLyon

Matchups for Friday:

2 FDSE vs 3 SA
6 IKM vs 5 WL
8 CDL vs 4 WB
7 NC vs 1 Regina

---------------------

IF South Winn is victorious:

8 CDL vs 7 IKM
6 WL vs 5 SA
2 SW vs 3 FDSE
4 WB vs 1 Regina

----------------------

IF Van Meter and NC win:

8 Van Meter vs 3 WB
7 NC vs 1 Regina
2 FDSE vs 3 SA
5 IKM vs 6 WL

-----------------------

If VM and SW win:

8 VM vs 3 FDSE
2 SW vs 5 SA
6 WL vs 7 IKM
1 Reg vs 4 WB

-- there is no exact science in all of this.

BUT if the IHSAA wants to have a "seeding" process, like they stated, WB vs Regina would debunk that theory

I don't care who WB plays, just hope they are playing on Friday.

Best of luck to all teams on Monday night.

A few things:

- Are you listing the second team as the home team or is there no particular order?

- (should all these teams win......) Regina will NOT host a Quarterfinal, unless it's against a team with 1 or more district losses. West Branch and West Lyon WILL host a Quarterfinal, if they win. St. Edmond will host a Quarterfinal, unless they're paired with West Lyon.

- I think your South Winn/Central Decatur scenario is most likely, though I'm kind of pulling for Van Meter just because I don't want to drive all the way up to Inwood to watch the game.
tongue.r191677.gif
(though I will)
And I say that because, the State won't leapfrog Saint Ansgar to pair South Winn with St. Edmond. They'll send undefeated SE up to 1-loss West Lyon before they do that. Fort Dodge is closer to Inwood than Saint Ansgar. The only way that changes is if the State decides that Regina needs to host a Quarterfinal being the #1 team and gives them Central Decatur (which is understandable). That would pair IKM-Manning up with West Lyon, SE with SA and West Branch hosting #2 South Winn.

- And of course any other upsets will certainly change who gets paired with who as well.

spot on response (2nd agreement in a week)

How do you send the 4-time defending champ on the road? Alphabet game is not in their favor

Is it Regina or Iowa City Regina by alphabet perspective?

WB would host, that's 1 thing I know for sure.

I see 3 games where the lower seed has a good chance at the upset:

Central Decatur, Leon @ Van Meter (CD has beaten them once; doesn't mean it will happen again, but have that confidence going in)

Dike-New Hartford @ West Branch (common opponent being Bellevue: West Branch beat Bellevue 38-7 and Dike-New Hartford beat Bellevue 42-7. Playing at home probably gives West Branch a slight edge)

North Cedar, Stanwood @ South Winneshiek, Calmar (North Cedar can put up a lot of points with that passing game, somehow they will have to slow down South Winneshiek. Seeing that they gave up 42 points against West Branch in their one tough district game tells me South Winneshiek will win.

I am not sure that they state seeded the teams other than by district rank.
You can not seed even the top four 1A teams in the state and get them all to the dome unless you are going to have teams traveling 3 hours to make sure those top 4 teams don't play until the semis.

WB vs DNH may be best 2nd round matchup in 1A

It's Regina, Iowa City. Most people commonly pronounce teams by their city first (Fort Dodge St. Edmond, Council Bluffs St. Albert), but most teams are officially listed by their school name first (at least private schools anyways).

Still, Saint Ansgar, South Winn and West Branch are all after Regina and went 6-0 in district play. 1-seed Van Meter has lost a district game, so that is why they would travel to Regina.

Class 1A Quarterfinalists:

Central Decatur, Leon
Dike-New Hartford
IKM-Manning
Regina, Iowa City
South Central Calhoun
South Winneshiek, Calmar
St. Edmond, Fort Dodge
West Lyon, Inwood

Projected matchups:

IKM-Manning (11-0) at West Lyon, Inwood (10-1)
South Central Calhoun (8-3) at St. Edmond, Fort Dodge (11-0)

Central Decatur, Leon (8-3) at Regina, Iowa City (10-1)
Dike-New Hartford (10-1) at South Winneshiek (11-0)

Two rematches and two fillers. Regina gets a home game, but not D-NH because otherwise there's no one to play South Winn and SW and Regina won't play each other this round.

I just don't see IKM-Manning getting Central Decatur because that would mean #1 Regina at #2 South Winn, while SE hosts D-NH.

The only change that could happen is if they move South Central Calhoun up north because they are a few miles closer to Inwood than Manning and Fort Dodge are. That would leave IKM-Manning traveling to Fort Dodge on Friday for an interesting rematch of former district foes.

Also I am curious to see if they'll look to get a neutral site if West Lyon draws either IKM-Manning or St. Edmond.

I posted this in another thread:

DNH @ Regina
South Winn @ St. Ed.
SCC @ West Lyon
Central Decatur @ IKM-M

Not likely, but another possibility

I'm starting a fund for Central Decatur to stay over in IC? 3 hour bus ride one way. It's all about the kids

What's wrong with using neutral sites for some of these games? Storm Lake or Sioux City would work for the WL-IKMM game, wouldn't they? It's not like the home school keeps the gate. We all know where that money goes, and it's not for trophies for the participating teams in the 1st two rounds. (Sorry, that just galls me. Cheap...)

Teams earn their right to play at home. If you win your district and are undefeated you should get home field.

Where it gets iffy is when it goes to the alphabet. To me if both teams were district champs and share the same district record then they should go neutral sites.

St Eds getting 3 home games for the playoffs is pretty incredible though, no? A definite advantage

SCC goes from playing at the worst football field complex (St. Ansgar) to one of the best football field complex in Iowa in four days.

In this case I am saying luck of the draw. Had St. Ansgar won...
DNH to ICR
SA to SW or vice versa
CD to IKM-M
FDSE to WL or vice versa

Not sure I would qualify playing in the 'Dirty Dodge' as the "best football field complex". You might need to leave town once in awhile so you can get out of the bubble you're living in.

Me and my buddies always called it Fort Dirty... Glad to know it has other nicknames...

Eagle Grove was the dirtiest small town I have seen in Iowa.

What other 1A team gets to play in an actual stadium? With the artificial turf, an scoreboard with a videoboard, actual stand that are not just moveable bleachers, a pressbox on each side of the field, etc. Playing at SE is a definite advantage and to think its not one of the top in 1A let alone that state is just simply uneducated.

I never liked playing next to a cornfield, not having a locker room to go to at half time, poor lighting, no bleachers or not enough of them on the visitors side of the field so it is hard to view the game. You don't have this problem in Fort Dodge.

....and for those of you putting down Fort Dodge, it is obvious you haven't been to Fort Dodge for awhile.

Yeah, it's been a few months since I had to... I avoid it as much as possible. Maybe it's completely changed since then...Ames is a much nicer town.

If it means anything I prefer FD over Boone...

Fort Dodge and Ames are apples and oranges. Ames is a university city with nearly 3* the population. If you compare Fort Dodge to other towns of approximately the same size (Marshalltown, Ottumwa, Burlington, Newton, Clinton) it's really not a bad town.

Just comparing a similar peer group. There are different types of towns. You can't really compare Fort Dodge to Ames anymore then you can Cedar Rapids to Chicago.

Ames, Iowa City and Cedar Falls all have major universities and are nice cities in a large part because of those institutions. Des Moines is the capital and also has several colleges.

Towns in the 15-40K population range in Iowa are typically heavy ag and/or blue collar industry communities. The towns don't have the resources (e.g. young population to drive retail/entertainment and higher income industry to sustain young professionals in great numbers) that larger metros do. Fort Dodge like the others I listed also isn't a bedroom community like Solon or Waverly that people with good jobs in the metros live.

As far as the towns in that 15-40K population goes FD really isn't that bad. They've had some nice economic growth recently and have added some decent retail growth.

Not to say off top, but... When I base a city it is generally on the housing appearances and frankly I can't stand some smells.

Fort Dodge, Boone, and Clinton are not my cup of tea. I didn't like Eagle Grove because it seemed like 80% of the houses were falling apart.

Cedar Rapids was always referenced to as the city of 5 smells rather than the city of 5 seasons.
Fort Dodge is Fort Dirty
Dubuque used to be Dupuke
I grew up in Waterloo and it is a lot better than many places, but some call it Sewerloo.
Ankeny is Skankeny
I could go on but that is all.

Dang! Cedar Falls and Ames didn't get one of those until a few years ago, so they must be making some moves! Texas Roadhouse is next.
