Quad City Times:

CLASS 3A

Team (2014 record)

1. Pella (14-0, state champions)
The Dutch return mobile quarterback Noah Clayberg (ran and threw for more than 1,000 yards), three of their top four rushers and top receiver from a squad which won all 14 games by double figures.
2. Cedar Rapids Xavier (9-4, state semifinals)
Bryce Schulte is back after passing for more than 1,100 yards and 14 TDs as a sophomore. The Saints also have Sean Murphy (479 rushing yards), Nick Stark (26 receptions) and Bryce Charipar (36 tackles) returning.
3. Sioux City Heelan (12-2, state runner-up)
The Crusaders graduated six all-staters from last season, including their quarterback, but Heelan seems to reload. It does bring back third team all-state lineman Jake Noel and receiver Odessa Clark.
4. West Delaware (10-2, state quarterfinals)
Coach Doug Winkowitsch's team has a 1,220-yard rusher back in Coy Roussell, first team all-state offensive lineman Colin Brown and its top two tacklers on defense in Colin Weber and Bennett Cole.
5. Solon (9-2, second round)
Quarterback Brandon Childs (more than 1,400 yards of offense) is back to lead the offense for last year's District 4 co-champions. Spencer Lawson (10 tackles for loss, 7 sacks) returns to lead the defense.
6. Dallas Center-Grimes (10-2, state quarterfinals)
Quarterback Austin Kloewer (more than 2,300 total yards and 32 TDs) returns along with tailback Nathan Brown (647 yards) and two of the team's top three receivers from last season.
7. Waverly-Shell Rock (8-3, second round)
The Go-Hawks are loaded in the backfield with the return of Ryan Sprain (770 yards) and Riley Steckelberg (637 yards) along with Andrew Epley (103.5 tackles).
8. Carroll (10-2, state quarterfinals)
Both losses in 2014 came to state runner-up Sioux City Heelan. Matt Pauk (1,070 yards, 19 TDs) returns in the backfield.
9. Davenport Assumption (5-5, playoff qualifier)
The Knights experienced a rude welcome to Class 3A last year, but they possess more size up front and a good nucleus with QB/LB Joe Argo, WR/DB Will Ontiveros, TE/DE Connor Lindaman and OL/DL Daniel Tjaden.
10. Gilbert (8-3, second round)
Cody Dvorak rushed for more than 1,100 yards as a sophomore last year as Gilbert's defense pitched four shutouts.

Local polls are always kinda funny. Quad Cities and Cedar Rapids have Xavier 2nd. Des Moines? Saints are 8th. The Register has Norwalk 3rd, and nobody else in the state seems to think much of them.

The fun fact about the Gazette poll is that it's 8 guys in their eastern-Iowa-centric newsroom voting on every class in the entire state. I think last year they might have only had 6 guys doing their polls. And it's all because the Gazette didn't want to pay the AP to run their statewide polls anymore. (Anybody know how many writers/voters there are for the Register poll?)

But as I always say ... polls are just for fun. Time to figure things out on the field.

Amen KidSilverhair, its time to really see what each team has, I am sure there will be some teams sneak up on people and other not meet expectations. Should be an exciting season to say the least.

Not sure if the DM Register rankings are even a poll. I think it's just the prep football beat writer's opinion....a poll of one, if you will.
