Playoff Predictions #1

We are coming up on the 1st RPI rankings and it will be interesting to see. Here are my predictions to who makes the playoffs from each district if they happened today.
D1- Dowling*, Ankeny, SC East
D2- Centennial*, SE Polk, Fort Dodge, Roosevelt
D3- Cedar Falls*, Prairie
D4- Linn-Mar*
D5- Bettendorf *, CR Kennedy
D6- Waukee*, Johnston
D7- Valley*, Urbandale

1st Four Out
Dubuque Senior, IC West, Waterloo West, Indianola

Roosevelt @ Dowling

With potential 8-10 seeds of loser of SEP/Centennial, loser of Bettendor/CRK, loser of Waukee/Johnston, Fort Dodge or Ankeny, would Cedar Falls rather have the #1 in RPI or #2, who could potential play the weakest district champion, which will come from district 4(ICW/LInn-Mar or Dav. North?) I'd rather be the #2 in the RPI.... Doesn't appear that you will have an Ankeny or SEP as the 15/16 seed this year, like last year.

Well you would hope Kennedy and Ankeny would beat the heck out of each other. However Urbandale can play too. I see your concern.

I think CF has Ankenys number, Kennedy would be a huge concern unless having to play a physical Bettendorf with in regular season play and then a physical Ankeny in 1st round playoffs.

I think CF will end up ad the 3rd Seed

franky1967, you think Cedar Falls at 9-0 would be a #3 in the RPI? Guess I didn't figure a 8-1 team could jump a 9-0 team. Figuring Valley and CF will be the 1 and 2(in either order), maybe that will not be the case..

Well I'm figuring on Dowling sneaking in there even if CF finishes 9-0. A 4-5 SE Polk team eliminated 5-4 teams last year. So I guess anything is possible

Because their Opp win pct was .667 -- easily the highest in 4A. The only other teams with an OW% of .600 were PV (.617) and Dowling (.605).

The highest OW% of the 5-4 teams that finished 17th-20th was .506 (Ames).

Look at Class 3A 2018 final RPI standings and it is very real it could happen

I wasn't disagreeing with you. I was explaining how it was possible.

Generally, to make up for a loss, a team needs to have an Opp Win % advantage of +0.112.

SE Polk had a +0.161.
