Exciting early season matchup on the opening weekend.. Pella travels to Washington for a battle between two Top 10 teams.. Pella won the opener last season with Washington winning the quarterfinal game in the playoffs. Both teams return starters on both sides of the ball.

Thoughts on the outcome?

Certainly a good matchup and has been for many many years these 2 have played as non district opponents. Pella played a lot of Sophs last year including QB and RB and at times 4 on def. Washington has an outstanding QB back along with some very good offensive lineman. Pella's def is going to be fast and experienced and I will take that as the difference in an opening season game. Pella by 7-10 points.

Pella goes on to battle DCG another top 10 team next week at home. Crazy hard start for the Dutch.

Read on the kcii radio website that Washington has two starting linebackers hurt. Anybody know if they will be playing against Pella?

I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord
And I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, Oh Lord
Can you feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord, oh Lord

Well, if you told me you were drowning
I would not lend a hand
I've seen your face before my friend
But I don't know if you know who I am
Well, I was there and I saw what you did
I saw it with my own two eyes
So you can wipe off that grin,
I know where you've been
It's all been a pack of lies

And I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord
Well, I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord
I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord, oh Lord
And I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord, oh Lord

Well I remember, I remember don't worry
How could I ever forget,
It's the first time, the last time we ever met
But I know the reason why you keep your silence up,
No you don't fool me
The hurt doesn't show
But the pain still grows
It's no stranger to you and me

BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM

And I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord
Well, I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord
I can feel it in the air tonight, oh Lord, oh Lord
But I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord
I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord
But I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord
I can feel it in the air tonight, oh Lord, oh Lord, oh Lord
But I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord, oh Lord.

Definitely taking Pella. Washington's got a few key players back, but without Coker, Tanner Knupp, Sivels and Covington, I don't see them having enough to take down a pretty loaded Pella team in Week 1. If they were to meet again in the playoffs, it could be different. But the new guys aren't likely to be 100% ready for Pella right out of the gate.

All of the Pella players have two lips. Write that down, it works all year long and as far as they go in the playoffs.

This should be another good game. I understand that Washington looks to throw the ball a lot more, partly because Sebelius can, and maybe in part because they think they will need to? I expect that Pella will be also inclined toward more balance between run and pass. Washington typically loves to pack the box and play very aggressively in that sphere, but Heelan proved a quality passing attack will really stretch and break their defense that over-emphasizes the run stop. Of course, lots of things have changed since last November. So, one question that remains is, will Pella's pass attack be sufficient enough to stretch Washington, or will it be the other way around?

I think Pella wins this opener.

Sounds like injury bug has hit Washington. Top returning tackler out with ACL injury (that is a real bummer). Also have other returning LB out with injury. Best receiver and good defender left scrimmage last Friday in ambulance. Don't know extent of injury of if will be back. I think Pella is pretty injury free at this point. Washington has lots of returning talent, but I think it may be tough for them to handle Pella's offense this early in the season with these injuries. Washington's defense was truly outstanding last year, but will be tough to duplicate this season.

Noah Clayberg is poised to have a fantastic season at QB. Last year he was thrown into that position, for first time in his career. I'm guessing he will be a much better passer this season and has had another season to get bigger, stronger, and faster. Should be a great, hard hitting game between two very good teams. Fantastic early season matchup which should help both teams in district play. I think Pella will win.
