Great game on tap for next week. DCG put a hurt on Carlisle at Carlisle last night. Carlisle is not as good as last year, but they don't get beat like that at home often at all. Carlisle's QB had a good year last year, but was only 4 of 17 with 3 Ints last night. That DCG defense must be pretty salty. I know the QB is very athletic and very good. He threw for a lot of yards last night.

Pella had a good game with Washington. Like Carlisle, Washington lost quite a bit from last year's team, but have some really good, big youngsters. Pella jumped out early on them 22-0 at beginning of 2nd quarter. Washington played better after that and had some very nice plays on D. Pella has a great team, but they are really missing some cogs from last year, namely Jansen on the line. But, it was only week #1, so lots changes between now and playoffs. Interestingly, Pella substituted at QB for the majority of the second quarter so Clayberg's back-up can get more experience with the first team. That young man can throw the ball, but the offense didn't move the ball near as well. He also played the majority of the second half. Clayberg wasn't injured, this was the plan (playing in the second quarter) coming into the game according to Pella's coach on the post game radio show. Clayberg rehabbed a foot injury forever in the offseason, so I think the coaching staff is just trying to be smart.

Pella has won 15 games in a row, but this will be a huge test next Friday. Pella took it to DCG last year, but I think they caught them before those young guys had confidence in themselves. A year later, DCG has more confidence. Should be a great game with two very dynamic QB's, good skill players, very strong D's, quality lines. If DCG can keep from getting down a significant margin at half then I think they have a great chance to get the W. Pella tends to pounce on teams so much the first half that it takes the other team out of their game. If DCG can control field position, that will help greatly as that is what Pella counts on. Pella will kill you if you give them short fields all night. Have to say that Pella plays several guys both ways and they looked gassed last night at the end and a few had to be taken out due to cramping in the second half. DCG basically platoons, so they should stay fresh. That could, very much, be in DCG's favor. I'm guessing that DCG has had this game circled for a long time.

Could be one of the best games of the year, and I have to work and miss it. Dang it.

100% agree. DCG will be improved but I would still take Pella mostly because of their sheer athleticism. My guess is that Pella takes this game 28-22

It looks like Pella's biggest weakness is conditioning. The D line was sucking wind bad in the second quarter. Washington was up at the line waiting for the Pella d line to get set to run the next play.
I wish this game would have been played about 3 or 4 games into the season.

Schulte has torn ACL and is out for the year. Pella still the favorite?

1. The game will be in Grimes.

2. It will be hot (certainly too hot for a letter jacket) and DCG appears to be the deeper squad.

3. Pella appears to be missing a key player.

4. DCG will be highly, highly motivated after last year's game.

On paper DCG would appear to be sitting pretty for tomorrow's matchup but NEVER sell the Dutch short. It should be a great game and it will be very large crowd tomorrow night!

I like everything you said stick...and I still think Pella wins by 2+ td's. Clayberg and Henry are that good. Kloevwer kid is good too--but he doesn't have enough offense to go with him. Heard DCG has a very questionable o-line also. Both defenses should be solid--let's just hope everyone stays healthy and avoids the cramps in this one. Very rarely do games with this much hype live up to the billing-therefore I predict 35-16 in favor of Pella.

To win DCG will have to establish their running game but I'm not certain they will be able to do so. While DCG has a very capable passing game traditionally Pella is a team that you do not want to have to rely on a passing game against. They also are typically a hard team to use the pass to open up the run.

On a night where you will be able to "wear the air" I think a huge stat for most teams will be 1st downs. If either team is able to put together a long sustained drive it will take a toll.

DCG will probably not be able to just pound it at Pella. They will have to move the QB, get runs on the edges and try to soften up the Pella D. Even without Schulte, the Pella D will still be very stout.

The Pella passing game will probably open up tonight as well as getting Clayberg more involved. Clayberg hardly ran the edges and misdirection plays last week. He made a living doing that last year. I would look for more of that tonight. He burned DCG last year with those.

Wow, it is going to be sticky out there tonight.

The O-line has been a question mark for DCG in the preseason and will continue to be all season. Garrett Gibson is a senior all state lineman and a coach on the field. He is a great leader and these boys follow him. They may bend but not break so time will tell. Should be a good game so say the least.
