PEDs

Sorry to bring this up, since it is not an enjoyable subject. I know this is going on in some high school teams, when it has no place in high school. Please let me get this off my chest.

Players: Do not think that this is OK as long as you are successful on the field. I know you do not think of the future, but there are long term effects that will happen down the road, most of it will be mental, so you will not know it is happening. I believe that soon they will find an indirect or direct connection to CTE.

Coaches: You are a piece of crap if you let your players do this stuff. I don't care if you do not have direct knowledge or not. These are your kids, do not let them harm themselves.

Parents: Do not let your kids do them. If you see it as OK, your kids should be taken away. You're an unfit parent. Is it worth the risk to have glory now and then lose your child in a few years?

Iowa athletic association: Having a little blurp saying that athletes should not do PED's is unacceptable. You need to do some testing on all sports and enforce the rules.

Is something bad going to happen to every athlete who uses PED's? No, but why risk it?

Question on how you would implement this Viking5K

Good question. I suppose the quick answer to this would be, doing random drug test. But a test would run a $100 a piece and that probably is too much to spend on a life of a athlete. Then again, I believe it is worth it to give each athlete a $50 EKG to see if the have heart arrhythmia and so they do not die during competition.

I just do not know how people feel about PEDs. Is it OK if my athlete takes something to help them perform better or do they see this as a way of cheating to gain an advantage and potentially hurt lives in the future.

I guess when you read the athletic associations thoughts on steroids, they make a very compelling argument about opening Pandora's box. Are we going to sit in the stands and force every player who has an awesome game to be tested? I suppose at the end of the day, I just want every person who influences a athletes life to say, No, you do not need to do this."

Life is not a sprint, it is a marathon.

Do you believe PED's are an issue at the HS level in Iowa? I suppose I should ask what you consider a PED.
