Started this in the week 5 thread and decided it'd probably be better off as it's own thread....

It's interesting that the consensus top 11 won 451-107 or an average of 41-10. The only loss being within the top 11 (WB to Bellevue)

I don't think that's surprising to anyone, just interesting that we can probably not expect many upsets during district play unless they play against another top 10.

At the beginning of the season I was thinking that parity was improving. Now I'm not so sure. It seems that matchups have the ability to be pretty competitive in amongst the top 10, not sure if any of that really translates "down class"

It'd be interesting to take the BC Moore stats for the last several years - cut them in to top third, middle third and bottom third and see about average margins of victory and loss (against in-class opponents)

Not saying that there has been any effort to increase parity, or that there necessarily should be. I think football would be more interesting/fun for the players and the fans if more than just a couple games were challenging. Just not sure what could or should be done to make that happen outside individual programs taking up the challenge to improve.

There are some district that will provide about one great game during district play in the regular season, but that's about it. West Sioux/West Lyon in district one. WB and Bellevue just provided a great game. DNH/Regina in district 6 has potential to be a great regular season finish. I think District 9 will have a good game or two among the top teams, because they're all very close. Other than that, there's basically one really good team in the other districts and the rest are average. That leaves not much for desire as far as competitive games. I agree with your rc, there just doesn't seem to be a long of great games among district play, you can certainly can't have 4-5 stud teams in a district because it simply won't work. One district that comes to mind in class A is with Bishop Garrigan, West Hancock, and Belmond Klemme. That is a stacked district. You would have thought WB, Bellevue, and Cascade had that potential, but Cascade doesn't seem as high as those other two, but they have yet to play either WB or Bellevue so I guess we will see. Hopefully this means that the post season will be amazing in 1A.

According to BCMoore, A D7, has 5 teams in the top 14. It makes for good football week in and week out, but the kids get beat up playing in close games every week and you know all 5 will not make the playoffs, which is unfortunate. So it is a double edge sword. Then you see districts that don’t have any, or 1, in the top 15.

It'll be interesting to see if the Moore rankings still have those 5 grouped at the end. Part of the problem with Moore, and it's not a knock, it's just what it is, is the beginning of the year is short on relevant data and it's a completely data driven model. OF course you can argue that some will suffer because they will meet each other and beat each other up, so, tough to analyze.
