Also, why is Clear Lake playing the 3 seed from their own district?

Oh boy. I guess everything can't be perfect.

Also have a rematch of a non-district regular season game:

Center Point - Urbana at Union (CPU won that game 32 to 12)

First thing I look at -- the live lower seeds and I see three:

Central Lyon vs. Sioux Center
New Hampton vs. Anamosa
and maybe Mount Vernon at Mediapolis (MePo has been narrowly escaping with wins the past couple weeks)

Then ... can District 3 pull off the sweep?
Already mentioned CPU beating Union earlier this season ... I think I'd favor the other three to win as well.

Don't think it would be too surprising if D3 does run through the first round. At this point though, it always seems like one team out of the district fails.

Have to love Sp Lake vs MOC game. 2 teams just played last night...33-0. I don't like the new set-up. The. Again I am old school and think only 16 teams should make playoffs.

If anybody would like to volunteer, I would love to see the # of repeat match-ups this year compared to the past few years. It seems like there are plenty, which takes some excitement away from the playoffs. Some teams playing repeat district games, some teams playing repeat non-district games, some of the repeats just occurred last week, etc. Nothing is perfect, but having districts predetermined to match-up with each other takes any manual intervention and judgment calls out of pairing teams up.

Right now I'm a bigger fan of the old way...

Me too. But it does make sense this would happen.

Given the valid complaints about the old way I have no issue with them trying this out.

I am also curious about this....? One of the most surprising scores I have seen all year.

So you don't like the "new" way that has some intra-district match ups, but you preferred the old way with 16 teams...

Not to pick nits, but in the "old" way with 16 teams, there were often intra-district match ups in the first round.

The problem is that our state is so spread out that we can have one of two things. Games that aren't half way across the state on a weeknight, or cross district match ups.

Good point. Old way was more district match ups. I guess I don't like the 32 team playoff. If your going to have that many teams then get rid of one non district game. Spread out the playoffs to Friday nights or Sat nights and go with the old way of Dis 1 vs Dis 2, etc...

I much preferred the 16 team playoffs, especially now as there are only 56 teams, instead of 64. My suggestion, when the conversation was occurring, was take the top three and give the 1 seed a bye. Most people were bent out of shape about a three way tie at the top and one team getting left out. I had always said, welp, then win the game and leave no doubt. Sometimes kids have disappointment in life. But the state wouldn't let 8 teams sit idle when they can bring in 8 more teams and get a gate off of 8 more games per class. Alas, we have a 32 team playoff.

It'll get better when they move up the start of the season a week and play Friday nights only including during playoffs. They may start next year.

Do you have to be mentally retarded to sit on the Iowa Athletic Board? This is the dumbest way of pairing I have ever seen! It's time to clean house and get people in place that know whats going on!

Please volunteer another method. And when you do this, please remember that a lot of people found the last process to have similar chromosomal issues.

It was partially due to some injuries, but it was just an overall bad game. CGD had a 21-6 lead at halftime and then Osage outscored them 31-0 in the 2nd half. They attacked CGD with a lot of short passes and the defense couldn't stop them, and for whatever reason CGD's offense couldn't do anything in the 2nd half. It was probably the biggest 2nd half breakdown I have ever seen!
