Oskaloosa- Glenwood, A Dream Matchup

Another great game. My head says Oskaloosa should win with their huge size advantage, but how can you pick against Glenwood after this week. They pulled off the greatest comeback I have seen at the state tournament the first round. The knocked off the defending champ and heavy favorite in the semi's. They just are refusing to lose this week. I think somehow they find a way to win this game as well. Mohr just has that "it" factor going and I think he will lead Glenwood to the championship.

Glenwood plays a little feisty- with an attitude and fire in their eyes. I think that evens out the odds. I'll take Glenwood, but who knows?

Some may shame Xavier Foster for that foul at the end. Yes he is a 4-5* player, but he is only 16 years old. A high school sophomore.

Oskaloosa had a great season, and return Foster, Henry, and Yates next year. Glenwood is just the best shooting team in the tournament.

Fabulous game. Glenwood wins their first 3A championship by 4 over Oskaloosa! Best tournament game in the past 10 years since Eric May lifted Wahlert past Harlan in a tied game as his team went the full court in one second with him hitting a 40-footer at the buzzer. Congrats to Glenwood. Osky will be back the next two years. And all-tourney team captain Andrew Blum of Glenwood is only a freshman! (or is that the other one?) Incredible.

Osky was out of timeouts so Glenwood could’ve just held the ball out of bounds because there was less than 5 seconds left. Actually what he did was smart. Might as well gamble they miss the free throws and then steal the inbounds pass.

Great game to finish off one of the best 3A tournaments I can remember. Glenwood just would not give in and made big basket after big basket. What a crazy run, from getting blown out in your opening game to winning it all. That town is going to be partying this weekend.

Great game...Foster is only 16 but IMO he is severely overrated...6’11” and skills are mediocre at best...Jared Kruse was best player in that team and Cole Henry deserved All tournament

I do not agree that Foster is "severely overrated", but Henry definitely deserved all-tournament team (and maybe even Spencer Tucker) over him this year.

congrats to glenwood, they where hitting on all cyclinders when it counted...i thought altlantic was actually decent too from the same conferance..they beat glenwood by 18 the first time they played, and lost about the same margin when it really counted...

Btw...tell me one basketball skill that Foster excels at?
Giant body - with good touch from outside. He is athletic as well. Most of this is natural, though some of athleticism is developed.
As to the skill - interviews afterward said it well. Cole Henry said tomorrow - back in the lab! You can see his development on post and wing. Xavier was asked about tomorrow - yeah - Cole will probably call me up and we'll go to the gym.
Not a knock, we are all wired differently - when X is motivated, active and getting touches - I think you saw it, can't remember if it was 1/4ers or semi finals.
He's got the tools - hope he develops them, will be fun to watch!

Ok we agree to disagree ...I didn’t say he won’t BE a great player but right now he is not...Having a giant body is not a skill… Like I said , mention one skill that he excels at and you can’t ....skillwise he has a long way to go...And when I say he’s overrated ....for him to be in the top 25 in the nation?? He is severely over rated

From what I have seen, much of the "ratings" are based on future potential as well. Big kid right now :)
You may disagree, but I believe that the athleticism he has right now would be a skill that he has developed. He's raw on the other things, as he works on it - will blow up.
It is more and more a guard oriented game - and a 3 point line game - his 3 point shot is legit.
Just an opinion - but don't think I'd be to down on Xavier.

OMG He is a 6'11' Soph. in High School and loves the game .
The skill will come.

Guys didn't you realize bulldog is the greatest talent evaluator in the country. He clearly knows more than every national talent scout and major college coach. Or maybe they are all right and Xavier is the prototypical modern day big man. He runs the floor, finishes above the rim, hits 3's, and blocks shots. Those all take skill as far as I am concerned. Sure he doesn't bang in the post, but big men don't bang in the post in the modern game. It is all about spacing and shooting, two things Xavier does very well. Honestly, I can't ever remember seeing another player in Iowa high school ball with his combination of size, skill, and athleticism. Does he have some things to work on? Sure, he is a sophomore. I have never known a sophomore who was a finished product. He needs to play stronger with the ball and get that free throw percentage up. But if you expect him to turn into Kevin McHale with a bevy of low post moves, it isn't going to happen.

Noted.... ...I think he WILL BE a great talent and yes his 3 is very good...But he is not there yet

..I said “In my opinion “ and Just to be clear I’ve spoken to some high-level coaches who do not believe he’s good enough to play in the Big Ten… and I do hope they are wrong ....I have a lot more insight than you may think I do!

And thank you for appreciating my evaluation skills!...hahaha

Ok I’m changing my opinion of Foster...( I can do that right?) turns out he’s only 15!...haha
After reading the DM register article I find it refreshing that his father seems to be well grounded...Xavier will be in the NBA by the time he’s 20

Glad you've come to your senses. :)

If you believe 4-5* means he's arrived, you don't understand the ranking system. This is him against others his age, and the fact that he is so athletically fluid at that size (and at that age), he is absolutely deserving of a 4-5* label. Still, a lot of it is based upon projection as well, but the fact that he is head-and-shoulders (literally and figuratively) above most kids his age would indicate that with normal development he'll very likely get there.

No one believes he is ready to jump to a P5 program and start - or even contribute in a meaningful way - at this point in his development. I don't believe he is yet a can't-miss prospect, but you will see MANY big-time programs take that risk on him.

Whoever said Xavier Foster is not good enough to play in the Big 10 cannot be consider "high level" anymore. If he wants it he will play in the league some day. I just dont know what his work ethic is like but he for damn sure can play in the Big 10.

Glenwood went in unafraid, and they played to win. They were not intimidated by Oskaloosa's size at all, and the younger Blum definitely does not play like a freshman. They stepped up when it mattered most, hats off to them. Great game, one of the best I've seen, with an unbelievable atmosphere!

Great game by both teams. Both teams had a lot of talent. Back amd forth with a ton of score changes. Huge crowd, loud, both teams made big shots. Neither team had a weak player on the floor

Without knowing what he was told in the huddle, what he should have done was stand out of bounds but not actually foul. This should have resulted in a delay of game warning to stop the clock. I've seen a few teams who didn't have timeouts resort to this in end of game situations. Now, obviously if you do it more than once the warning becomes a technical.

I guess this thread is a good example of how people can watch the same thing and come away with totally different impressions because I watched all three Oskaloosa games and came away EXTREMELY impressed with Foster. 6'11'' sophomore who is not only fully coordinated but athletic with legit 21 foot shooting range? I'm not sure how you can't be impressed with that.

Glenwood was a very impressive team this year. So many guys who are skilled offensively, can shoot it, and understand how to play. It was cool to see a true team with balance have success. Crazy to think Norwalk had them down 20 and they could have been bounced 1st round. Just shows how much parity there was in 3A this year...lots of quality teams. How will 3A be next year? Outside of Osky I would think a lot of teams will experience a drop off.
