Can the beat Lewis Central?

Can the beat Lewis Central?
harlan mistake prone team, nope...not sure if there is anyone in 3a that can beat them, even 4a...harlan had good season, though i do believe there are some 3a teams better, including lewis central.....one thing i like about harlan, is the sophmore running back, he is playing for the hurt starter...this guy could be the starter, and will be very good by the time he is a senior

All the finals are in: Here should be the playoff qualifiers ranked by RPI (district champions in bold):

  1. Sergeant Bluff-Luton (.7214)
  2. Lewis Central (.6932)
  3. Xavier (.6921)
  4. Solon (.6902)
  5. North Scott (.6828)
  6. Decorah (.6643)
  7. Oskaloosa (.6632)
  8. Waverly-Shell Rock (.6552)
  9. Clear Creek-Amana (.6471)
  10. Harlan (.6447)
  11. Spencer (.6331)
  12. Pella (.6284)
  13. Western Dubuque (.6279)
  14. Heelan (.6221)
  15. Norwalk (.5804)
  16. Carroll (.5451)
Just out: Washington (.6214) and Denison-Schleswig (.5573)

The straight-seeded bracket would be:

16 Carroll at 1 SBL
9 CCA at 8 WSR (can't happen)
----
12 Pella at 5 North Scott
13 Western Dubuque at 4 Solon
----
----
14 Heelan at 3 Xavier
11 Spencer at 6 Decorah
----
10 Harlan at 7 Oskaloosa
15 Norwalk at 2 Lewis Central (can't happen)

But Norwalk has to host. I think you obviously send Heelan to Lewis Central ... but then do you put Norwalk against the top-seeded at-large, Waverly-Shell Rock (about 2 1/2 hours)? Or do you make it CCA at Norwalk (under 2 hours)? Or do you go with Harlan?

It could look like this:

Carroll at SBL
Spencer at Norwalk
---
Harlan at Oskaloosa
Heelan at Lewis Central
---
---
Pella at Xavier
CCA at Decorah
---
Waverly Shell Rock at North Scott
Western Dubuque at Solon

(Norwalk would really catch a break with this scenario, getting the #11 seed ... Spencer is going to have to go a long way regardless. Do you send Spencer to Decorah, then WSR to Norwalk and CCA to Solon?? That doesn't make seeding sense ... It also makes more sense for WD to go to North Scott and WSR to Solon, I know ... but if the state wants to stick closer with seeding, you'd want to send your #13 seed and not your #8 seed to your #4. I guess we'll see how much they factor geography into the bracketing ...)

My guess would be...

SC Heelan @ SB-L
Carroll @ Norwalk

Spencer @ CB Lewis Central
Harlan @ Oskaloosa

Waverly-Shell Rock @ CR Xavier
Western Dubuque @ Decorah

CC-Amana @ Solon
Pella @ North Scott

But would they do the Heelan-SBL district rematch if they can get around it? I'm guessing they'll do whatever they can to not have that happen. You could just flip Carroll and Heelan with the SBL/Norwalk opponents and that would work, too.

I'm still unsure if the state is going to give Carroll some extra "seeding power" because they won their district, or treat them like the 16th-best qualifier (that shouldn't even have been in the playoffs). My thought has always leaned toward the latter, sending them to SBL because that's a perfect 16-1 game, but I don't know what Boone is going to do about them.

I understand that they are trying to avoid first round matchups within the districts.

Another way to consider doing this in the future would be to have two separate eight team fields....east and west. For each side, 1 would host 8 and so on. At least for the first two rounds, then the final four go to the Dome.

It said avoiding 1st round matchups with district champs and runner-ups...maybe Heelan goes to SBL now? All depends on where they send Carroll.

Also WSR as the #8 seed would be a pretty nasty opponent for the #3 seed, Xavier. Not that Pella or CCA would be a whole lot better ... there's a lot of tough teams in this field, particularly in the east.
They are good team but wouldn't be match for Xavier. Xavier I believe would beat WS by 24+.
