This is just another way I feel they could do the playoffs. Get a committee together or something rank the teams 1-32. I did this and matched them up accordingly. I had couple rules.

Rule 1- First 8 have to play someone within 4 of their rankings so like 1 has to play 29-30-31-32. One of those.
Rule 2 Second 8 so 9-16 have to play someone within 6 of the corresponding ranking. So 16 could play 17-18-19-20-21-22
Rule 3 reasonable distance no requirements
Rule 4 try to avoid district rematches

1. Don Bosco
2. Glidden
3. Central Elkader
4. CRB
5. Janesville
6. WBM
7. MMC
8. TV
9. FM
10. GTRA
11. Newell
12. HLV
13. EHK
14. BV
15. Lamoni
16. Guthrie
17. Melcher
18. Northwood Kensett
19. Harris Lake Park
20. Lenox
21. East Union
22. Sidney
23. AWV
24. Wayne
25. Clarksville
26. Stanton
27. Kee
28. WCM
29. Colo
30. Meskwaki
31. North Iowa
32. Twin Cedars

Just my rankings I understand some teams beat others that I have ranked ahead of one another but I felt they were better. So the match ups would be.

Meskwaki @ DB
Twin Cedars @ Glidden
Kee @ Central Elkader
Colo @ CRB
WCM @ Janesville
North Iowa @ WBM
AWV @ MMC
Clarksville @Turkey Valley
East Union @ Fremont Mills
Northwood Kensett @ GTRA
Harris Lake Park @ Newell
Wayne @ HLV
Stanton @ EHK
Sidney @ Boyer Valley
Lenox @ Lamoni
Melcher @ Guthrie

I think this gives us a better idea of say the top 16 in state really only game that teams might of got slighted was GTRA vs NK.

Discuss if you'd like just another perspective I feel they could do that ensures best teams are moving forward.

Strange then why is there a 4 team playoff in College football to determine a champion and they are ranked 1-4? Or a playoff system in every sport with playoff teams like nfl 3 vs 6 and 4 vs 5 to play the 1 and 2? Seems like every other system ranks team to give the best teams the chance at winning a title? Districts have easier teams within the district as WBM district showed. So your saying HLP who just beat a 1 doesn't deserve a chance at winning they could of been 4th best team in state that given year? Look at the SEC west have arguably the 4 of the top 6 teams in the nation should Alabama not get a chance at the title even though they are quite arguably best team in the nation? I know a lot of what ifs but my system is giving the best teams the best chances at making the Dome which is what ultimately what everyone wants. Why should Lamoni get rewarded for a bad district with a one seed and playing easier first round game? While GTRA is ranked high in BCMoore and had to play another high ranked team according to BCMOORE. This is REWARDING the best teams.

I could see this becoming a political nightmare. Everything about ranking teams 1-32 is all biased opinion on judgements they most likely can't make because the people in Boone most likely haven't seen all 32 teams play...if any. The system they have now isn't much better as some teams will look like they have a clearer path compared to others (example: Exira-EHK & MMC) so it will appear that some politics are involved in wanting to get money making teams to the final 3 rounds but it is way better than having them ranked 1-32. I think its a proven fact that their will never be a perfect system for finding the best teams so they have to do the best they can in creating matchups that will hopefully find them.

Didn't say it was perfect but like this year the Western half of the state is way deeper than the eastern side. Eastern side may have better top team but western side has way more "good" teams. So in the format the Western Side gets beat up while DB takes a stroll to playoffs and is a lot more fresh come dome time. Looking at the ranking system round 2 makes it tough because so many western side teams are playing each other. Was just another insight on what state could do. There will never be fool proof system since the "good ol boy system" will always be there. This was just offering a better way for first round games.

second round just saying top 16 win looks like.

DB vs HLV
GLidden vs Lamoni
CE vs TV
CRB vs Guthrie
JAnesville vs GTRA
WBM vs BV
MMC vs Newell
FM vs EHK

Quarters looks like based on teams

DB vs CE
WBM vs Janesville
Glidden vs MMC
Coon Vs EHK

Final Four looks a lot more interesting those look like the top 8 teams to me and western side gets maybe that third team since WBM is borderline.

I think the way they have round 1 games being played right now isn't bad. If a 4 seed beats a 1 seed them obviously that says something about the districts that the #1 came out of. I think we are seeing the state getting creative with how they are doing round 2 with sending teams to unexpected places that nobody really saw coming (Exira @ Lamoni, Melcher @ Fremont Mills just to name a couple) I think round 3 we will really see some interesting stuff with the state sending people all over the place to play. I think they have their top 4 teams they are wanting to see in Cedar Falls set and they are going to match them up accordingly to give them the best shot at getting there and if that means sending teams from the east to the west to play games or vice versa then so be it.

Funny talk about a weak district because HLP beat Boyer Valley. The 2 and 3 seed from that district are still playing and could very easily be in quarters. I don't mind the way it is being done, makes for more chatter on the boards. More like it used to be, stay up late and find out who your opponent is. Once you are in the playoffs, you can't take any game lightly because anyone can win on any night.

I agree its funny talk. I still would like to think Newell and Exira-EHK are the top two out of that district. Boyer just so happened to catch them at the absolute perfect time. They barely beat Newell before they really got rolling and they beat Exira the week after Peppers got hurt which was a huge shock to their system having to find a replacement heading up there for that game. The way they have it going this year I think has been pretty good so far actually. We will see what happens come quarters where they send teams if they keep them relatively close or if they send teams other than #1's all over the place to play.

Tell that to the loser of MMC and Glidden-Ralston, since they're stuck playing each other because the state wants Exira to still be alive if/when Peppers heals up.

Did the IAHSAA issue a statement that I missed stating they were protecting E-EHK?

If I was Glidden I would rather play MMC now after a tough physical game on short rest compared to later on a more equal playing field.

Regardless if the state was protecting EHK it doesn't affect MMC and Glidden being matched up. It would likely have just moved EHK and Melcher.

How is this such a horrible match-up? MMC has two losses on the year and was the 2 seed from their district. Who do you expect the state to match MMC up with?

MMC @ Newell-Fonda
Melcher-Dallas @ Glidden-Ralston
Coon Rapids-Bayard @ Lamoni
Exira @ Fremont-Mills

It really isn't that difficult, unless of course you're trying to protect Exira for a little longer.

So why are you trying to protect MMC by giving them a 2 seed? Every other 2 seed gets a one in your scenario...so why protect MMC now? I'm just playing a little devil's advocate here, but the state set themselves up for these arguments when they decided to pick each match up.

The state is protecting Exira. They killed GTRA to safe exira. Round one they should have paired MMC with Exira. That's a 2v3 and would have settle a lot of arguments. Otherwise in the 2nd round send them to Fremont mills. This system is pure BS. Just ridiculous. I know sister districts was not a perfect system for playoffs but I like it a lot more than this. Teams are getting a free ride while others are on murders row week after week.

I don't think he's protecting MMC the geography in those makes more sense for the fact that no one plays a district opponent. I think that's the problem people are having well at least me anyways. Why do HLP and WBM have to play when HLP is shorter to glidden than melcher to tabor. But Lamoni and melcher don't have to play. If they showed consistency I would have as much of a problem I guess. Also it's pretty obvious that Lamoni is the weakest of the 1 seeds that Exira could play.

Pretty sure HLP is at West Bend because they are a 4 and West Bend is the closest 1. Doubt there is any other reason.

I understand it's 4 vs 1 but they want to avoid district rematches HLP to glidden only 127 miles and WBM then can play Newell and coon plays MMC
