I thought Pella lost their superstar with the really long last name. Surprised to see them up there so high? Did they return a lot of there other guys?

Pella was really good last year and apparently has a scrappy, pressing outfit this year also, but one of the reasons they are so high is that many of the pre-season predicted powers have gotten off to a stumbling start. I still think that Waverly- Shell Rock and Spirit Lake will fight their way back to the upper levels of the ratings once they are whole and healthy. Didn't 6-9 UNI commit Phyfe miss the first couple of games for the Go-Hawks, and aren't some key kids hurt for Spirit Lake? Maybe somebody can fill us in. And I can't understand why someone hasn't commented on or given details of the Spirit Lake- Western Christian game. Is Western's defense that good that Ryan Kriener got off only six shots?

I think Spirit Lake has 1 contributor out yet.
Van Lingen from Western has owned Kriener in all 3 of their meetings. I think Kriener has had 1 good quarter out of 12 against them. Last time out, had 1 at the half & finished with 4 (all FT).
Western is just a bad match-up for Spirit Lake (and a lot of other teams). Western denied Kriener & limited Brown's looks (had a couple late 3's to end with 12)

Western has a great defensive stopper in 6'6" Marra. Strong & quick enough to guard a bigger player PLUS has the advantage of 6'7" Van Lingen or 6'9" DenHerder to help on double teams.
I do think Kriener is a great player & excels when he's one-on-one in the paint. Current supporting cast makes it a little too easy to sag & help on him.

Avgs from the 3 matchups -
Kriener: 9.7 pts on 37.5% shooting, 7.3 rbs, 1.7 blocks.
Van Lingen: 23.0 pts on 61.5%, 15.7 rbs, 1.7 blocks.

I think it really comes down to supporting cast and coaching. Need to find ways to put players in a position to succeed. And when Kriener was able to get the ball he was doubled immediately. I'm expecting the next game to be a much closer game.

I don't know much about what they returned besides Will Warner, but they are up so high because they beat DCG and Grinnell on the road. Will be interesting to see how some of the teams in 3A move around, there are really only a couple of teams I could see keeping up with Wahlert this postseason.

What's the forecast on Pella-Pella Christian.
Surprised to see PC @ 5-0 w/ Kazmarynski out for the year. Jungling's a stud, but who's stepping up?
