Tomorrow evening, the Iowa City Regina Regals and the Solon Spartans will face off. This game has potential of being a historic one, not only because of the rivalry between the two squads, but because if Iowa City Regina defeats Solon, Regina will break the state record for consecutive games without a loss. Currently, Iowa City Regina and Waterloo East are tied for the record at 56 consecutive victories. With a victory tomorrow, Iowa City Regina will be the lone record holders for this coveted record. To add irony to the situation, the last time the Regals were defeated was in a game against Solon a few years ago.

If you feel as if this would be a pretty exciting game to attend, but can't make it, you can listen to this game being broadcasted via podcast tomorrow evening at http://theregalcast.com.

For future reference, all of the Iowa City Regina football games will be covered at The Regal Cast (http://theregalcast.com) this season.

Actually Regina has the longest winning streak at 56. East started with a tie and then won 55 straight.

So, I guess the record that Iowa City Regina is aiming for will be the "longest streak without a loss" and not the "longest winning streak?"

I think I'll pass.

they only have a mere 95 games to go!

If Solon wins that would end the current streak. That would be historic as well. People remember what teams end streaks, just ask any Regina fan on who ended Solon's streak

So either way, win or lose, every game Regina plays from here on out will be historic.

that's true. every game is historic for Regina because they are the only 2A-3A school getting away with playing 1A football.

all joking aside they are a good team. one of the best in the history of 1A.

Definitely an instant classic. Solon had a couple chances inside the 5-yard line that they failed to capitalize on (bad snap recovered by Regina and an interception in the endzone), and Regina had their chances to win it, as well (muffed snap on a FG that would have cut the deficit to 21-17, deflected FG that would have given them a 3-point lead with under a minute to go).

I will say, though, I was surprised Regina didn't do more to get Brinkman involved tonight. He had the 44-yard TD, but other than that didn't really do much (part of that was thanks to Solon, but there didn't seem to be a concerted effort to run the ball on Regina's part).
