Lewis central had 754 kids last year, and this year with the new districts, they dropped to 698... i have a couple of questions. 1. how can u loose 60 in one year? 2. will they go back up to 754 again, ,or remain in the high 600,s

Their drop to 3A was more due to 4A going from 48 to 42 teams. Looking at their BEDS numbers as a school district they are growing overall, but not at the same pace as an Ankeny or Waukee.

thanks., i did not realize that 4a was reduced in numbers....wonder why boone did that?

I haven't done any research to back it up, but I'm pretty sure it's because of the dwindling number of 11 man programs overall. Same thing that's been trending over the last decade or so.

So, smaller pool, divided among the same number of classes means fewer allocated to each class.

People will complain no matter what Boone does.

Ultimately the top tier of the Class 4A schools were just so much bigger than the smallest 4A schools. The smallest 4A schools were not that much bigger than the 3A schools. Obviously, it's a trickle down affect.

The big enrollment schools with a big football roster can simply wear down teams with smaller numbers. A small school can hang in for a quarter or two, and then extreme fatigue sets in (especially the line) as the big school keeps their players fresh by frequent substitution. That's why the 35-point rule is such a good thing. The misery gets ended before even more weary kids get hurt.

Well, if the current trend of declining participation continues (for all school sizes), perhaps tackle football at the prep level will be confined to only the largest schools and/or co-operative arrangements.
