Is the Hawkeye 10 looking to break-up??

Rumors are that Clarinda, Shenandoah, Red Oak, and possibly Creston are going to be given pink slips And LC, Harlan, Kuemper, Atlantic, Denison, Saint Albert, and Glenwood are looking for some Des Moines area schools to fill the void. ( Western side)- I hear LC is leading the charge. This conf currently goes from 1A-4A, but on any given night the 1A and 2A schools can win against 4A competition. I would think LC would look North to tangle with SC EAST and SBL to prepare for state...thoughts??

If LC wants bigger-school competition, it should look at the MRAC. They'd be the 9th team now that LeMars has joined the league.

I'm hearing LC will be 3A in everything boys wise within a year or two.

And so......it’s not like they would be the only 3A school in the MRAC. Booting Clarinda, Red Oak and Shenandoah would leave those schools out to dry. No conference of similar sized schools would want to take on the added travel. Plus, I don’t see any 3A schools in the DSM metro wanting to leave their current conference.

Carroll has always made sense to join that conference.

I agree about the southwest Iowa teams, - maybe playing some Missouri teams? The disparity between LC and some of these smaller schools hurts them both...one physically the other from a power ranking and preparation for post season.

St Albert is not your every day average small school. Arent they competitive in the conference year over year?

That’s why it makes more sense for Lewis Central to leave the conference than force out the others. Plus, the nearest comparable size Missouri school is 2:15 away from Clarinda.

But LC is the big dog in the conference, they don't want to lose that. I agree, in order to prepare for state they should be playing 4A competition.

LC dome team last year.
Glenwood dome team a couple years ago.
Harlan and St. Albert have arguments for strongest tradition in their respective classes. Both of them have been near guarantees year in and year out (I realize they’ve experienced some recent struggles).

I’m not saying other conferences aren’t competitive, but I don’t think we can say that football over there is always better if there’s teams in H10 consistently getting to the dome.

But yes - certainly if you’re talking just 4A, then no question. I agree completely that the 4A Council Bluffs Schools dont stack up. No question.

I am hearing that lc is sick and tired of playing the sisters of the poor everyweek, in every sport.
Also hearing that glenwood is tired of losing h10 to lc and could realign.

Lewis Central is long over due to leaving the H10 and they should have left/kicked out years ago.

There was talk last year that Treynor wanted in to the H-10. Their Board decided not to apply. No action was ever taken by the H-10.

As for teams looking to leave or kick other schools out, your information is not correct. The H-10 did send out letters of interest to several schools last year about them joining the H-10, but non showed any interest.

Stop me if I'm wrong, but I've been told the IHSAA has pretty much "sealed the border" except for some 8-man teams. Is that right?

There are teams that play out of state. For example Davenport Assumption played Rock Island Alleman the last two seasons.

It's just that a few of the neighboring states aren't on the same 2-year schedule rotation as Iowa, so it's difficult in some corners to get new series started.
Missouri is now on a 1-year cycle. This is the second school year.

I guess the question is why doesn't LC step up and play in a 4A conference. It would do nothing but help them come tourney time. I have heard the coaches like the position they are in- racking up wins and having a clear advantage. The new A.D at LC is a really sharp guy-I believe he won't be satisfied playing at the 3-2-1A levels for much longer.

As far as Treynor- they don't want any part of the H-10. I believe it would help them similar to Saint Albert come tourney time, but the bumps and bruises along the way are not desired by the powers that be.

Nebraska is on the same cycle as Iowa (18-19). (Maybe LC could schedule some Omaha schools in the next go-round.)

South Dakota is opposite of Iowa (19-20), so the far northwest teams are kind of hung out to dry. West Lyon and West Sioux used to play S.D. opponents regularly back in the day.

Minnesota is also on the 19-20 cycle for its districts, which I assume impacts scheduling -- but their state website is all sorts of terrible.

Great suggestion- LC's 8th grade team won the metro title last year ( Omaha /Council bluffs schools) so I believe they could compete.
