Still no love for Coon Rapids or Don Bosco in this week. Not sure we are getting any closer to having it right yet really. Here is mine how I would have it:

1.) Fremont Mills
2.) Exira-EHK
3.) Don Bosco
4.) Coon Rapids - Bayard
5.) HLV
6.) Turkey Valley
7.) Central Elkador
8.) Glidden Ralston
9.) East Mills
10.) MMC

On the doorstep of getting in: West Bend Mallard, Wayne, Janesville, Kingsley Pierson

I know I had Wayne in my top 10 last week, I just feel they are an above average to good team playing in a very very weak district. Knowing the competition they play I probably wont be sold on them getting in my top 10 either until playoffs unless a lot of the teams in front of them fall and they keep winning. MMC fell out of mine last week but that impressive win over GTRA and a very close loss to Coon Rapids kept them right there at the edge waiting to come back in once Sidney lost in front of them. East Mills is still my sleeper team though in the bunch. They have two weeks before the big matchup with Fremont Mills to determine if they are for real and if Fremont is deserving of the #1 spot.

Coon Rapids Bayard is a top 5 team. I say they should be #4 if not #3. That team is very big, very fast, and very physical. Look for them to continue to make some noise as the season roars on. Also MMC should be in the top 10 as well. I realize they have one loss already and didn't look too impressive vs River valley in week one but they just beat a very solid GTRA team by double digits and their lone loss came to CRB. I feel like they will also make some noise as the season rolls on

I can't rank Coon Rapids high until they finally beat glidden. I've seen too many years where they look great then get pounded by the wildcats. They pass that test then I'm a believer.

This is pretty fair, IMO. I won't be shocked if they go 9-0, but that district is just awful, and their non-district slate took a bit hit when Nerness transferred out of Murray. Melcher-Dallas is the only team on the schedule that might realistically beat them before the playoffs.

That said, if anyone is in the neighborhood and has a chance to see Clayton Kiefer play, take the opportunity.

Here is my rankings:
1. Turkey Valley 3-0
2. Exira-EHK 3-0
3. Central Elkader 3-0
4. Don Bosco 3-0
5. Fremont-Mills 3-0
6. Lenox 3-0
7. HLV 3-0
8. Janesville 3-0
9. West Central 1-2
10. Kee, Lansing 2-1

^^^^^^^^^^^#9 West Central?? Didn't they give up 58 points and 68 points in losses to Clarksville Tripoli??? I honestly know nothing about West Central other than they are always well coached, but this seems odd to me?

NEHTrojan, in all due respect I would almost say that West Central is UNDERRATED. Yes you heard, they lost to a very good Clarksville team in week one and their other loss was a fluke. On top of that their best player Tyson Decker (Linebacker) has been out all year with a shoulder, you put him in the game and no one scores over 30 on them.

You have to be kidding about West Central. They lost to Clarksville. N-K just beat Clarksville 61-8 and could have named they score. The west side of the state will absolutely roll the eastern side if West Central is a top team on the east. N-K got there butts handed to them by GT-RA and also lost a close one to West Bend. Imagine what they would do to West Central!

Just trying to point out how absurd your thoughts are. Put whatever linebacker you want in their lineup and I could name 30 plus teams that would score 30 on them. Give me a break.

There are 2 tiers of teams, these are in alphabetical order and separated by East and West.

On the West side;
Fremont Mills and Exira-EHK are a step above everyone else. The rest are CRB, GR, MMC and then the rest.

On the East side;
Don Bosco and Central, Elkader and possibly TV seem to be the top tier. Janesville, NK and HLV make up the 2nd tier.

These are the teams on each side that will contend for the qrt's and semis. Don't see anyone else getting in these categories.

I meant to say random, not alphabetical. Rank them how you will but they are separated by tiers.

We can sit here and argue all we want, but West Central is legit. Decker was the leading tackler of the district last year as a FRESHMAN and his presence is deeply missed on the gridiron. Also, you can't determine West Central will lose to N-K or GT-RA just because they lost to Clarksville. Last time I checked, anything can happen any given night on the football field. Once Decker is back, this team WILL finish top two in the district. They will have trouble with TV this Friday because Decker is questionable. Otherwise, this team will be rocking all the way through October!

Nobody even mentioning East Mills? I guess we'll have to wait another week for the match-up with Fremont-Mills to see.

Heard good things about East Mills, just that they are not on the same level as FM and E-EHK. So I should have put them in the 2nd tier.

West Central still has a lot to prove. You can't give up 58 and 68 points in two losses and then claim to be a team that's going to be rolling, come playoff time, after beating a winless Midland team. As good as Decker may be, one player doesn't make a defense. One player can take a solid offense and make it great (see: Jake Hogan), but defense is an entirely different beast. Decker doesn't represent a 30+-point difference.

Hmmm, according to Quik Stats, James Niemann had 62.5 tackles last year for West Central while Tyson Decker had 62. Mr. Decker was 13th in tackles in District 4 last year. Very good for a freshman, but not the district leader.

My fault here. He was the district leading tackler BEFORE QuikStats changed assisted tackles to half tackles. If you add up solo tackles and assist tackles, he was the leader last year as a FRESHMAN!

West Central is solid, no doubt, but much like Turkey Valley they have much to prove and they do have to play defense. As posted earlier, one player does not make a 28 point difference. Statistics continue to show teams that control the line of scrimmage, run the football and are physical will win a lot of games. That sure does not mean throwing the ball won't win games but you have to be able to run the ball, play defense and be physical, If you don't have the ability to do that luck will not be with you. I know Coach Milder will do what he always has and coach up his kids. But the eastern half of Iowa has Central, Don Bosco, Janesville, and some others that are in front of the line ahead of West Central right now. No knock on the Blue Devils just how good those teams are.

Just look at last year. Rockford threw the ball over the field. Look what that got them, a 3-6 record. I saw them last year and have seen WC this year. They were much better at it than WC is now. You have to be able to run the ball at some point to get it done. Murray in 2011 is probably the most successful passing team that also made it the farthest in 8man. They ended up getting smashed by FM who ran all over them in the championship. Other great passing teams (CRB, Ar-We-Va, Twin Cedars) never made it that far in the playoffs, at least not to the semis or championship during their time of Air Raid style offense with 30-50+ pass attempts a game.

Thank you for driving my point home. Congratulations your team throws for 3,000 yards but went 3-6. If passing is the only option you have and that is what fits your kids, you have to make it work but your job gets very difficult. I am not taking anything away from West Central at all, I have not seen them play and hopefully will be in Maynard Friday night to watch TV/WC game.

Even Murray in 2011 could run the ball. They were third in the state with 2695 passing yards and sixth in the state with 3302 rushing yards (with four guys who put up between 484 and 1072 yards). They liked to throw the ball a lot, but they could always fall back on the ground game when needed.

You can be one-dimensional and win championships in 8-man. So long as that one dimension is your ground game.
